Just thought of that in class and as stupid as it sounds I want to expand on it.
So let's just assume it would be raining all day everyday, no matter the time or place you would be in. Just dark clouds and rain. Of course the rain intensity could vary from a light drizzle to a heavy rain with big droplets. Just imagine what that would be like...The obvious first thing to observe would be the ecological effects but I want to focus on the social consequnences first.
Rain every now and again is nice, relaxing even. But that is only under and umbrella or if you're indoors. In this hypothetical reality humans invented everything but just without roofs or anything to cover ones head. It's not even a thought that crosses anyones mind. They have tables and chairs and walls around their houses but the concept of hiding from the rain just seems ridiculous to this version of humanity. I'd be like trying to convince everyone that shitting in public is okay. Yeah, there are weirdos who do it but it's not socially acceptable in this theoretical society. What would change about the people? The whole concept already screams gloom and sadness to me. Humans aren't made to be constantly soaked in water. Especially not cold rainwater. But still, for the sake of the hypothetical, we'll assume the water has no effect on their health. It would however still effect their mood, in my opinion. The dark sky, the constant drowing sound of water, it would just make you feel depressed and sad all the time. The people of their world would be used to it sure, but humans as a whole aren't meant to be in a dark and gloomy enviorment all their lives. It just makes them cold, detached from their emotions because all they've ever felt was this cold sadness that they could never explain.
Now onto the ecological consequences. What everyone probably first thinks of when they hear "Constant rain" is the inevitable coming of a flood. Like the one in the bible. Of course you'd assume that people would build boats and take as many people on there as posssible. Like that guy from the bible. Just without roofs because y'know, humanity is stupid and all that. But perhaps that wouldn't happen in this world. Perhaps the reason it's raining is because all of the water from the ocean evaporated into clouds that will now rain for tens of thousands of years to come while humans can do nothing but wait until the salty rain stops and they can finally be happy again, an emotion they could only experience very sparingly and only in their early childhood.
Wowza, deep thoughts. Anyhow that's all I have on the hypothetical constant-rain version of our world for now.
Typing all this out was actually so fun I can't lie. Maybe I should have more random thoughts like this....
CY4 :D
