Where to Begin?

I have been on Friend Rewind for three days now, and I do not know the etiquette 

(・_・;) 

My friends were on another site like this called Unspace, which I was super excited to try!!  BUT apparently it crashed or something before I could get on there. They suggested this site instead, which so far I've really enjoyed!!! 

I have been browsing the site and trying to figure out how everything works. Social media in general makes me sort of nervous because all apps/sites have their own ecosystems of what's socially acceptable to post and how to interact (does that make sense, or do I sound like a total weirdo??) 

Most of all, I am interested in making new friends on here. It has been a while since I've made any online friends. In middle school and during the pandemic, I was really active on Amino (rip). Overtime i lost touch with those people or grew out of those fandoms. I live in a conservative town and attend a private conservative Christian university that does not align with my values or any of my interests. Honestly, it gets exhausting interacting with those types of people 24/7 without ever being able to truly express yourself due to literal safety reasons. 

All that being said, how do I find my niche without pissing people off? I've been befriending people left and right (hi, I appreciate you guys), but apparently that's a red flag (°_°). I saw someone calling out people with more than 50 friends, so now I'm like WHAT IF I'M DOING THIS WRONG!!??

Am I just being a bit ridiculous?

So what I'm asking is that you guys share your own experiences. What are some of your "Friend Rewind Pet Peeves"? How do you guys find community? What are your favorite aspects of this site? Or whatever else you can think of to say. Teach me the ways
