sometimes when I'm scrolling through music forums in here, everyone is for some reason hating on pop music/subgenres, but I honestly do not see the point in that. music is ART, and art canNOT be rated on a scale, nor ridiculized (unless the artist/songs are offensive towards a collective of people). for example, I love pop music but I also love many artist from other genres, and everyone I talk to about it seems to have a specific hatred towards pop. mostly I'd like to know WHY, bc I know some fandoms can be really hardcore and toxic, but that doesn't mean you have to hate on the artist, the same way nobody should hate on the artist that you like simply for the music genre.

cuz ıts 'basic' and most people like it so radios prefer pop over other genres and that makes some people think ıf u like pop u don't know anything abt music and u don't have good taste u just like what's popular . ı personally love 2000's and 2010's pop but after 2010's I think ıts more rare to find some good pop songs cuz ıts so generic and everything sounds so alike at least that's my experience but pop music isn't my number 1 thing to listen anyway sooo ıdk

I think a lot of hate comes from the same reason it's called POP. It's meant to be POPular. Therefore it is composed in a way to reach mass appeal and some people don't fw that. Personally, there's a few pop songs I like and upon listening a few more times, even Amo, the album of the metal band Bring Me The Horizon, is pretty good. I think it's possible to like or even love the genre, part of why it exists. People want something that feels as genuine as possible and not like it's carefully curated not to get the singer cancelled for singing something.
Also a lot of pop music can, but doesn't have to, be a quick corporate cash grab with little to no soul. Some people don't care about the meaning behind music or don't really have a standard if it's normal enough for anyone else.
And basically the first thing people think about pop is that it's generic and boring. Like the default settings of listening 2 music.
I completely get that, but then when a mainstream artist releases an actually good album with meaningful lyrics that people can relate to, the hate doesn't stop. I believe it has a lot to do with the stereotype that until a few years ago, only some pop artists wrote their own songs (when now everybody at least co-writes them). The term "pop" for popular music (as you've already explained) comes from the fact that a lot of people like them, not necessarily that they're built to reach mass appeal. Could be for the cactchy beats, or the melodies, but just because something is popular doesn't mean it's bad.
