I was first introduced to them since 2022 when my friend share me their playlist and I was mesmerized the first time I hear because thid dong was my gateway introduction to scREaMo.
I was 14, discovering rock music and I didn't felt it, I just thought it sounded so good without paying attention to the lyrics and do nonsense but that wasn't the point.
One thing I wasn't prepeared was their entire discography, listening to their Self-Titled and tp be honest I wasn't interested in it (it really sucks because 14 year old me had no personal taste to begin with) but I liked Buried Myself Alive and still to this day, I still LOVEE IT at the bottom of my heart.
And then the sophmore comes 'In Love & Death' and I was like BLOWN AWAY. I have never heard an album with a good album art!! The whole thing was just art, I love it when they made it experimental and it was executed pretty well, and the tone of the drums made me fell inlove more than their debut (up until it was my opinion but The Self titled was the best). The entire tracklist was so mesmerizing and I don't remember which place exactly I wss listening to this motherfucking album under the pouring rain, but all that matters that this album was a fucking journey.
However I didn't listen to the the third album and it wasn't my thing but Pretty Handsome Awkward... We do not talk about that.
And then I moved on and didn't mind about the entire discography for the used, because there was alot of bands to browse and I didn't have much time to listen in every band with the whole discography, I don't know where I get that mindset about I should listen and discover more bands until my ears are overloaded.
But college gets in my way and I felt sad all the time because I expected to be alone in this day in age and I was right... It was rough, I wasn't prepared and I have my problems for a personal reasons, crying each day when I took a ride at jeepney... To cope up, I reached the used, I don't know why back then but now I know. Their music really spoke out me, because one thing I've noticed was their good lyricism... But damn I wanna write like this;
"I guess it's okay I puked the day away, I guess it better you trapped yourself in your own way. And if you want me back, you gotta have to ask!"
"I'll be just fine pretending I'm not, I'm far from lonely and it's all that I've got."
"Is it worth it? Can you even hear me? Standing with your spotlight on me
Not enough to feed the hungry, I'm tired and I felt it for a while now
In this sea of lonely, the taste of ink is getting old
It's four o' clock in the fucking morning, each day gets more and more like the last day
Still, I can see it coming, while I'm standing in the river, drowning
This could be my chance to break out, this could be my chance to say goodbye
At last, it's finally over, couldn't take this town much longer
Being half-dead wasn't what I planned to be, now I'm ready to be free"
It was poetic and I should've payed attention even better because damn... That's really deep and I'll give them credits for that! Their instrumentation was the best, especially with the guitarist really did a great job until I have developed a crush on Quinn Allman. <3
But the rest of the band were equaly great,
one way to get to know about the band was watching their unhinged ass documentary. LOL, the whole documentary sucked (in a good way ofcourse). But honestly this documentary 'Maybe Memories' is way better Life in the Murder Scene in my opinion, because the whole thing was amazing, funny, deeply unhinged and I have a big awe how their lives have changed after their career went catapulted once they were a band opener in Warped Tour and developed a big loyal fanbase. I get to see their emotional moments, touring, screaming, recording processess, screaming while getting hit repeatedly for the sake of it, Bert's birthday present, doing brojobs at their old recording studio, pouring candle wax their manager's nipples, Using a motherfucking dildo to strum the guitar and many more...Â
I can't get enough with the editing to it was so fucking funny, I love them so much!
But in conclusion, I just love them as soon as I got older and it's the fucking best. I would wanna listen another album from them but I would only stop at an album, a specific album after two of their original members left the group and it sucks because it's never gonna be the same without Branden and Quinn. It was just really awful to hear Quinn, opening up that he was abused when he was part of band. I don't know who abused him but I am glad to know that he's doing just fine since then.
Anyhow, there's never going have a similar band like The Used, they're so unique on their own and they're such a badass motherfuckers, it was my 2000s dreams.
My Favorites are A Box of Sharp Objects, Buried Myself Alive, Take it Away, Poetic Tragedy, Bulimic, All That I've Got, The Taste of Ink, On My Own, Blue and Yellow, Hard To Say, Cut up Angels, Choke Me, Noise and Kisses, Yesterday's Feelings, The Bird and The Worm and many more!
