Why I’ve switched to the retro side of technology.

I often think about the differences between the technology, the internet and social media around 20 years ago, and what they have become today. 

In the early 2000s, the internet was a place people visited occasionally, through their computer at home or maybe at a cybercafe (they didn't live on it). It felt quieter, more human. Forums, long blogs and microblogging were the main draw of the internet back then. No algorithms dragged you into an infinite loop; people connected with a purpose. 

Unlike today, phones at that time had one clear and simple job: communication. Old phones were meant just for messages and calls, adding other functions like cameras, or MP3 players in the mid 2000s. But before, and even after that, a lot of people carried with them digicams to capture every moment, an MP3 player, or even a Discman to listen to their favourite CDs. No distracting apps that took you away from the moment and reality. To be honest, old technology was so cool.

Nowadays, that feeling of old tech has, sadly, almost completly faded away. Social media and movile devices have a whole different purpose now.

As for me, my bag is heavier, but I love enjoying my music on a Discman or a CD player, my movies in DVD, I always carry my digicams with me and I've found this incredible side of the internet, far away from algorithms and doomscrolling, where I can just post my blogs and share my interests with others. The internet and technology can still be like before, and I think I found the cool and beautiful side of them.😊
