missing chunk on minecraft world

Back to Games

so you folks know those ARGs where the player is haunted by an evil entity or the world just decides to cease to exist? (also i don't know if this is the right category to post this on, but please tell me if it isn't)

well that just happened on my world it's getting annoying

it might be the version i play on (1.8 or so) or the fact that my monitor is absolute rubbish, but nonetheless there's a chunk missing, i did record it so it's not just something i came up with, here it is folks.

i tried rejoining and what not but that damned chunk is STILL MISSING, a few other things that i've noticed is that the lighting doesn't work as intended near a certain radius of the missing chunk (around 11 blocks or so) and that animals tend to randomly turn invisible but still be audible

if any of you folks know why this is happening and how to fix it i'd highly appreciate it

There's a few things that could be the issue here. A couple of questions: are you running bedrock or java? Is your hardware on your system struggling? Have you tried F3+A if you are on a PC/Laptop? I've had this issue before with a previous version that I was using a 3rd party hosting client for. I solved it by reloading a previous backup I had. Unfortunately if you do this you lose any progress you've made since the backup. If the issue is a corrupted file it will spread.

i am currently running java, my system struggles occasionally but not always, i have not tried F3+A (so i'll probably give it a go), thanks for answering my question so i'll try to do what you said and see what happens, thanks again mate

(yes, this is the proper category, dw)

From what I've heard and seen, this could be just the chunk loading (noise generation) being wacky and not able to load properly, especially if your pc struggles with the game. I would recommend installing performance modpacks... maybe you already have them? :3
They help A LOT.

Is the chunk too far away from spawn?

Also what are your specs? In my case, I always make sure to run Minecraft on my NVidia card instead of my Intel. Chunks not loading properly or missing could be exactly bc of lack of resources. Press F3 to see if the game is using the correct graphics card.

Or, worst case, your save is corrupted.

But you said Minecraft 1.8? the Bountiful Update? That's from 2014. But if it's this older version, the chunk missing could be bc of lack of space on your disk, lack of enough resources to load the chunk or corrupted save.

Therefore. it could be:

->>> Client-Side Rendering Lag (The "Fake" Missing Chunk)

->>> World Save Corruption (The "Real" Missing Chunk)

->>> If you have mods, then could be a conflict with them

LE POSSIBLE FIX: Press F3 + A to force Minecraft to reload all chunks. U can also turn down your render distance slightly so your computer has less to process.

If it's a fake missing chunk (technically there, just visually transparent), try walking on it.

And maybe a good performance modpack can help too and prevent future issues like this (your pc will thank you too).

Srry for the long ass reply. Good luck fixing that! :D

@Playertesting_149

Those are wonderful news! \(^o^)/

Minecraft code, especially older versions, is held together entirely on vibes, duct tape and unexplained side effects. 🥲
