I would love to put some retro widgets on my desktop, perhaps a cpu measurer, a calendar and a little frame for some pics, any suggestions on where I could download some? I already have winamp!

If you want a more modern Windows 10/11 look, I'd get version 38.x or later.
If you want a older Windows Vista/7 look, I'd get version 37.x or earlier.
i can give some suggestions depending on which style youre going for, do you want a classic widget like windows 95 style? or something like xp,vista, or 7

Ah, I've been meaning to get into system UI customizing. I haven't gotten around to it yet, but I saw many people recommend Rainmeter for widgets.
I stumbled upon the subreddit r/MoeDesktop this week; they're geared towards anime styled decorating but I found their tips useful.
