the news about the digital store is so upsetting but at least we still have a year to scoop up some games. in the meantime i'm wondering if anyone wants to trade PSN IDs because online play is still functional for now!

tbh i'm not worried about getting games for my ps3 while the digital store is up since i just install ROMs and i still own a few discs. but if you are worried about the digital store i'd look into jailbreaking your console (unless you have a super slim) and installing ROMs on it
i've been wanting to download cfw but i've had my ps3 for so long it feels wrong lol
@evadacutest yes i got this feeling too lol since i've had the same ps3 since i was a kid. but it made me use it a lot more compared to my newer console since it meant i didn't have to spend a bunch of money buying old games !
What's the difference between slim and *super* slim? I think I have a normal slim but jic
@Leo the super slim is a smaller and lighter console with a top-loader disc drive that slides open and it's visibly different than the slim and fat models
also you can't install CFW on a super slim because none of those models came with 3.55 stock firmware and are incompatible with it, and 3.55 is the firmware you need to install CFW
maaan i wish there was a service that is pretty much a database of all games, dlcs, and other stuff in all regions that you could access from and download from directly on your ps3... *wink* *wink*
Ooh that's me! That's me! It's stuck at my cusions house rn (on account of the...) but! I still have it!! I even have all the CoDs on physical bc I found them all on Ebay for like 50 bucks
RIGHT HERE RIGHT HERE I MODDED MINE!!!!!
me me me modded and ready for battle !

I've been meaning to stock up on secondhand discs for mine, I've lost some games over the years :(

Yeah I have my Slim modded, PSN seems to hate my jank ass network setup though
looking into getting one
and saving up for a crt tv too!

Make sure to get a CFWable Slim when you get it if you have the choice, the Fats kinda suck (I know the backwards compatibility and SA-CD and extra I/O and all that is appealing, but the 90nm RSXes those use have a very high failure rate (CECHJxx and later don't have this problem but they also lose those features so like why)) and Super Slims can't (currently) be softmodded.
Also I'm sure you already know this but the PS3 was mostly built with 720p in mind (and has no 240p for PS1 games), so it's going to look kinda ass on a standard-def 480i set compared to your usual LCD unless you want to try finding an HDCRT, which would do a MUCH better job for this.
@larpmaster5000 noooo i have a phat one :( they look cooler imo but are they really that bad to mod??
@evadacutest Fat ones are all CFW-compatible via softmod. I was saying that Super Slims are not, since all of them have a minimum firmware version of >3.5.5. It's just that the 90nm RSXes on early Phats have a flawed design that's extremely prone to failure, basically the PS3's version of how early 360s had the Red Ring of Death. Only way to really fix it is by doing a "Frankenstein Mod", transplanting a 65nm or 40nm RSX from one of the later revisions onto your board, which is a pretty involved process. If you look at your model number and it starts with "CECHJ", "CECHK", "CECHL", or "CECHP", then you don't have to worry about this since you already have a 65nm RSX in there.
Also worth noting that all models and revisions can be modded one way or another but ones with datecodes of 1A and earlier are by far easier to deal with since you can have a full CFW with just a software-based exploit. If you ever have a model with a later datecode, then you can use a HEN (non-persistent and doesn't give as many features) or BadWDSD (modchip solution, requires microsoldering skills and will not work with eMMC SKUs (model number CECH-4xxxA) but achieves the same end product that CFWing a softmod-compatible would).
Here, I have my cousin PS3 phat with games like guilty gearXXAccentCorePlus,KOF’99, Katherine,COD Black ops2 etc
just use a hybrid firmware lol, i agree that this whole store thing sucks tf up but there are so many delisted/rare finds that u cant find in it so it feels incomplete anyway ifykwim.
