noise... too much noise

Back to Rants & Vents

Am I the only one who gets annoyed by even the slightest noise? I just want peace and quiet, but my neighbours and other household members love being loud.

I usually listen to my own music with headphones, but when it's neighbours outside — especially ones who don't live here and are just visiting — I turn my speakers up really loud out of spite.

Yes, it's petty.

But peace and quiet is really important to me.

Also, I wish people stopped their dogs from barking so much. :S

My dog barely barks... he's very well behaved.

And yes! The most annoying thing is the neighbours. It's always the same people who are loud, and there's that guy who's always working on his car or riding those noisy mini motorbikes. >:(

My solution is either sliding the window close. OR BLASTING SOME OF MY OWN MUSIC SO IT MUFFLES THE NOISE AND ANNOYS THE GUY.

But hey... At least my playlist is better than whatever he plays on the radio! >:3

I personally don't find this petty at all. Coming from someone who has AUDHD and has an autistic little brother whose screaming on a daily basis, it gets to a point where I genuinely can't tolerate it anymore. Unfortunately his way of stimming is by screaming and noise, while mine is mainly quiet. My sister gets annoyed with him too; though the only difference is that her headphones are soundproof and mine aren't. Though she can still hear his screams even with the soundproof headphones on.

My parents have gotten so used to his noise its like nothing to them but for me and my sister we either wake up to him screaming or him banging his toys against a table to where it sounds like a demolition crew.

My neighbors on the other hand were so loud before they moved out that they would bass boost their music every Friday to almost on a nightly basis. You could practically feel the sound vibrations from the attic. Though they moved out earlier this month, its been really quiet. Thankfully.

So sorry to hear that. 😔

It must be difficult, especially when it comes to such cases.  I'm autistic and I know how it's like, especially with very acute ears.

Have you tried solving that situation with your parents? I think between family members, there can be a solution, unlike with neighbours that live on another building.

I also had very annoying neighbours that moved out, and fortunately, their dogs too. Here, dogs simply just bark to their hears content (and to my discontent).  :/

I think the only sounds I tolerate are from wildlife and the weather. I can tolerate the owl at night, but not a barking dog.

I hope you can find a solution for your discomfort tho. You clearly need some peace and quiet.

Have a nice day! :3

You're allowed to feel annoyed when someone breaks your calm with their need for noise, I sometimes need loud music to focus, but my family is very different so I put my headphones on, have you tried investing in noise-canceling headphones?

@SkyFellOfOfTheMoon

At the moment, I can't really obtain those types of headphones. But I was considering a pair so I can be more comfortable when doing my usual stuff in the city.

But honestly... it's super disrespectful for people to be super loud in the neighbourhood. And I don't want to constantly wear headphones or earphones bc my ears also need to "breathe".

The problem is when the noise is at night, when me and my family are trying to sleep.

I'll think about the headphones in the future. But I'll also try to talk to my family or other neighbours or maybe just call the police. :V

I was thinking about recommending you to call the police but I wasn't sure if it was something you already tried so I just asked for the headphones. I believe you can file a report or when they're being loud at an ungodly hour just call them, my neighbours also love to play loud national music at 1 am but in our community it's seen as very rude and aggressive and it can lead to heated arguments that my family doesn't want to start.

Don't forget you have a right to be strong about your peace and that sometimes people just don't know, and if you have told them it's causing you distress or discomfort of any kind and they didn't react? Call the police, and ideally have a recorded conversation or have the conversation with your neighbours be photographed so you have proof that you have asked the neighbours to be quiet before calling the police.

You’re not alone, I also hate noise and I’m super sensitive to it. Especially when it’s coming from my annoying neighbors who party seemingly every Saturday. And they always increase the volume way past midnight, I hate those people so fucking much. I really wished they’d be more considerate of all the other people around them who are trying to sleep.

I hope you can find your peace one day. 😔✨
