Tadc as a whole

Honestly this is more of a rant but wtvs, when the pilot came out I had so much hope for it, it’s a really cool premise and I actually really enjoyed the next few episodes. But as an artist myself, I have stories and characters that I reflect on, but it’s super important that those characters ARENT a self insert, yeah it’s fine to see yourself in your own oc but when the line between oc and self insert is blurred, the show just becomes boring, because you’re just going to focus on your self insert instead of the cast. The show is over and we have a minuscule amount of development for everyone, even jax wasn’t developed, even though half the episodes are focused around him. It looks like to me goose saw the hate and that ‘jax isn’t a good person’ and suddenly decided to justify WHY instead of making him improve, I thought the movie was absolutely terrible, we know nothing about the cast, nothing more about c&a, and it’s such a letdown cuz it was such a cool premise.

About Jax, personally what I think is that the entire point of the story WAS Jax not improving as a person. They're a cautionary tale, they're meant to tell you what not to do, how not to cope, and that you SHOULD get better instead of shoving everything down until it's too late. Jax's actions weren't meant to be justified; it was a reason for how they are and not an excuse. We can sympathize with Jax, sure, but that doesn't mean that they were right to do anything they did. I also personally think that they could've fixed the issue of not much development with the other cast members by making more episodes, it's a shame they couldn't #tbh because it would have been a much better story had everyone gotten more screentime

I'd like to think more episodes would've helped with character development (if they used their time well), more episodes =/= better shows either. I tried to truly enjoy this show, but i think i just like it. Imo, self-inserts can mess up a show if what you said happens, but I don't hate them as a whole. I think some self-inserts can lead to really good exploration of the story themes if done correctly. An author that's self-aware enough to not give special treatment to the self-insert could pull this off, i think.

When it comes to Jax, i always thought she was insufferable. I think she encompasses "misery loves company" pretty well and I did like that she got a tragic ending. I do like the lesson that the decision to change has to come from within and that Jax could have made hard choices to change but didn't. Even though i liked her tragic ending, I didn't like how her arc ended in the final episode. I don't know, to me, she was just so difficult to connect with that I wasn't emotionally swayed by her abstraction. I just felt bad for Ribbit, Kauffmo & everyone who had to deal with Jax afterward!

I'd need to sit & think more as to why I couldn't connect emotionally to the characters of this show compared to how i do with other shows I like.  

I personally don’t think the ending was that bad. It could’ve been worse but i do agree with a lot of people about the unnecessary focus to Jax wasted a lot of the potential about the show. In retrospect, the whole thing with Jax makes me really uncomfortable considering she is Gooseworx’s self-insert and Gooseworx was the only writer throughout the entire show, cuz along with some of the design choices in the new merch and the amount of focus to this specific character, that is supposed to be her self-insert, rubs me the wrong way.

I can talk about Gooseworx’s decisions a lot but this thread isn’t really about her so let me talk about some of my thoughts more:

The biggest issue i have is that the SOMA theory being true, I've literally readed many theories that are just way more creative than the SOMA direction and it's already a very overused plot point. I believe the show had a lot of potential and could've added something new to the table instead of going to the same direction just like what other stories with the same genre already went through.

Another thing that comes to my mind is; I saw people complaining that Jax shouldn't have got the cast's sympathy and care after everything that is shown but i personally feel like they missed the point a bit? I interpreted that the entire point with rest of the crew taking care of Jax is to show that she still (was) a human even if she has done bad things, i feel like people thinking she doesn't deserve forgiveness is the exact reason (in a ironic and metaphorical way) to why she self-destructed herself and hurted those around her so badly. Humans are more complex than what we think about them i guess... very ironic because Jax also held very one-dimensional thoughts about others around her. Another thing i saw is that ppl noticed it kinda felt like Caine paralleled this (which i agree tbh) but it was somehow unfair for him to work up to gain the cast's trust again which is, i mean...

The reason behind Jax being forgiven despite everything he has done is FAR DIFFERENT than the reason Caine was “forgiven” in the first place. Caine might be an AI that doesn't really knows what he is doing in a human sense but it still doesn't cancels out the fact that he was literally a god in the circus that "trapped" them there without explaining anything, that is literally digital hell and digital torture.

This is all i can really think of atm, I kinda feel like i should make a blog post about this detailing my thoughts further in the future.
