THE FAST FASHION PARADOX

Lately I've been called out for a couple of friends and family because my "rebellious" attitude against hate crimes, capitalism, racism, misogyny, homophobia and in general having a strong sense of justice, it's not coherent with my consumption which is (as u all know by now) fast fashion like inditex, shein etc.

The thing is I KNOW, how it affects children under slavery and the contamination it provokes, and I've tried diferent alternatives such as buying secondhand clothes, but no matter what i try it seems to be everywhere, half of the clothes on those second hand racks say "shein" or "romwe" and it pisses me of, because it's not like i want to re buy something, which might be at 2 times the price i saw on my phone yesterday and has already been used. And i know a lot of you may say "oh then make your own clothes" but it's not that easy either, you need, a sewing machine, materials, patterns and the most important resource of them all TIME.

Some people hadn't been hit with the realization that TIME is our generations biggest privilege/ flex, and that a lot of us don't have the freedom to choose where to invest it.

Also people are trying to make believe that it's our fault for buying, where in reality that's all we can do because we have no other option, i buy fast fashion and i admit it while claiming myself an alternative person, not because of my looks or style, but because of my ideologies, also i feel trapped in this dilemma of wasting half of my salary on a single item that might be good and etic with the environment or getting few pieces for cheaper price and quality and taking as much care of them as i can.

I'd love to read your opinions and or solutions

I'm sorry if I sound rude at all. For one, clothes are a necessity to an extent. That extent being you don't need that many clothes. Many many people do not have a huge wardrobe and a lot of people in the alternative space have started small. You need to understand that it takes time to grow with your fashion. It's not hard to thrift or even purchase stuff that's not shein or whatever other fast fashion slop there is. You can upcycle, you can be creative. It is your fault for buying as there is such thing as supply and demand. You demanding will require the supply and that ultimately causes harm on everyone. The people making the clothes in harsh environments, the land where your garments will end up and so totally not break down. You should feel guilty and you should feel hypocritical because that's what you are. You can't say you have said ideologies when you continue to consume. There are so so so many options rather than fast fashion, you're just not looking hard enough. Looking through thrift stores you can easily step away from brands you don't like, you can easily look at tags and labels and whatnot. 

Back to what I started with, clothes are a necessity to keep your body safe from the elements, and to stay clean. If you're not willing to not purchase fast fashion or a little bit more for thrift stores then just don't consume. Use what you already have.
