Someone's probably made this topic already lol, but if you like physical entertainment what's your preference and do you collect them? Similarly, what kind of player do you have? What's your favorite movie/series you own?
I legit can't really tell the difference between DVD and Blu-Ray lol
I know Blu-Ray discs can hold more data (and therefore are used for HD versions of things) but in practice, for movies, I genuinely cannot tell
Basically, I find myself going back and forth between DVD and Blu-Ray when it comes to movies
For games, I'm pretty sure Blu-Ray is just the better format, since those can hold more data, so if we factor that, then Blu-Ray I guess

Yeah that's what I said, they're ending future support for physical games and will not be producing new physical discs. I meant future consoles, not the current already released consoles.

In that case, I think the PS5 Slim and Pro not having a disc drive is an indicator of how the next console will fare

i do want some of my favorite films and stuff on dvd or blu-ray. more likely dvd since blu-ray has some kind of weird proprietary stuff with it, and also dvd is cheaper. i have been collecting a fuck ton of vhs tapes from my local thrift store and i really want to watch them but it is amazingly hard to find a cheap working vhs player. it don't make sense to me
Blu-ray ouf of all those. I personally prefer ripping my physical media into digital encodings. Either h264 or h265.
Maybe MySpace was all the friends we made along the way.

The only thing I use Blu-ray for is avatar and Star Wars =P
Blu-ray, but only because they’re way more durable than DVD (literally never had a Blu-ray scratch!). But I miss all the bonus content and “disc 2” type stuff we got during the DVD era (and DVD menus were peak!)
DVD cause we have a whole collection, it actually fills up 2 drawers and its so nostalgic cause i watched everything on dvd as a kid and yeah we have all the cool movies

i like dvds for modern televisions but when im watching on my crt i prefer vhs. i will also always have a special place in my heart for ced videodiscs and laserdiscs... i really need to acquire a player for either format.

ive always preferred dvds to blu ray, one of the things that kinda annoys me about blu rays is the change in box size. i feel like a lot of shelves are meant to be the perfect height for dvds, so the only two blu rays i own look extremely out of place lmao. ive never minded dvd quality, the increase in price + the fact you need a specific player for it made blu ray not rlly viable for me (i dont own any vhs tapes so i sadly cant comment on those lol)
i love dvds so much i have like 13 dvds, but im still trying to collect some more! i have 1 blue ray that i have yet to watch tho 😭 but i would definitely love vhs more if i had a player! i like dvds more than blue ray bc i like the lower quality ecspecially because i have a old ahh tv

Honestly I like all kinds of physical media but im SUPER used to DVD and bluray. I have a few VHS but sadly I still gotta get somethin to play it on...
the big issue with bluray is that you need specific things that can PLAY bluray discs, that always pissed me off.
DVDs usually get a spot in my heart bc they are easy to work with, USUALLY dont have any crazy ass DRM and they can be played on basically anything.
although I dont have many, VHS tapes are so fun to have even though its kinda hard to get my hands on them for some reason.
but uhh yeah, definitely a DVD guy lol.
DVDs are definitely my go to for collecting. I have a duo dvd/blu ray player that I keep in my room when I don’t feel like using my roku stick. I have slowly been trying to grow my tv series collection instead of movies and I just love it when they have cool start up menus or little games included.

Im a dvd fan! I have a cheap thrift store dvd/blueray player. But dvds are cheaper. This is my current dvd collection (not including those I burned myself)

I collect a little of everything! I have a portable dvd player, a blu-ray & dvd player, and a VCR. I find that VHS tapes tend to be more prone to errors but some movies just need that film grain (Silence of the lambs, scream, crash, to name a few...). I hear a lot of complaints about disc rot but I've been collecting for five odd years and I've never seen it in my older or newer discs. Maybe I'm just not in the area for it haha. Nothing beats the extra features on a dvd/blue-ray so I'll always prefer them.
The only thing I don't collect is 4k blu-rays. Yaya best quality or whatever but you need a specific player, specific cords, specific displays, and suddenly it's a lot of money just to see some pores more clearly. I'm ultra-vintage since my players are older than I am and all my movies are second hand, so it'd not worth the effort to upgrade.
