What is the most difficult part of building your Oc or their Background story ?
for me, the most difficult part is building their response to difficult things. i don't like to write bad things happening to my ocs and don't really think ab conflicts between characters too much, so there's that (,; ⩌ ;,)
Trying to give them flaws and positive characteristics that don't feel like flat archetypes. I have a hard time branching out from the same kind of characters sometimes. I'm especially always worried my main characters could all be switched around into anothers story with little difference in their choices or feelings in whatever situations they're in.
i really value writing ocs who seem real so i find giving them a consistent and unique voice to be the hardest :P
writing the background is the character imo. it's so easy to just make up a guy and slap some attributes, preferences, and quirks over it, but the real fun of it comes from asking why and how the character got this way. if your character is afraid of needles, why are they afraid of needles? that gets you thinking about the kind of environment and lifestyle of the character, which is how you can learn more about them. it really does feel like getting to know a person, the way that more information is revealed the more time you spend nurturing the relationship!
i guess the answer i have is that sometimes, i get all these ideas for a character and their progression, and the direction it ends up taking me in can vary drastically from what i've established so then i need to go back and either rewrite the established attributes or alter the new idea to fit what is already established.
