For the gents and the ladies into Guy stuff aesthetic.

Back to General Discussion

whats a descriptive term for things that are culturally "manly" or "guy focused.". like, if a group was hyper focused on movies like pulp fiction, heat, scarface, the raid, bloodsport, kickboxer, commando, the good the bad and the ugly, fist fool of dollars, universal soldier, death wish, reservoir dogs, casino, goodfellas, the warriors, vanishing point, tony jaa and jacky chan movies, Hong kong gun fu action, speed, etc. They all shared a culture of bodybuilding or powerlifting, listened to hard rock or thrash etc. Enjoyed much of masculine cultural aesthetics with a conscious understanding of such, eating steaks, rec rooms that look like old pubs etc. Talk about models and celebs through history they thought were hot etc.
pool table owning, beer signs that light up, pinups on the garage wall, etc, all this but in a self aware and least bigotted way possible, what would that be called?
And if there isnt an endearing, aesthetically name for it, like cottagecore has, what would it be?

And take note, im talking about all these aspects sans any connection to being derogatory directly to other groups, just the aesthetic tones and practices and comradery around it that is "guy" associated but lots of even women feel they have a strong connection too.

personally, i would think it would be dudecore possibly?

Any thoughts? on the concept as a whole too, what might you like to add?
got any pictures or personal anecdotes that really catch the vibe?.
Movies i missed that slip right in?
Versions of this culture that are different but have a similar undertone in your own country or location thats not my western context?

would love to hear it.

Also to be really into this, you dont have to be a guy, one of my best friends when i grew up as a little kid that introduced me to a lot of this was this girl Melissa.
My lil kid self thought myself all sorts of "guy" till this 14 year old girl sat me down and showed me every hong kong gun fu flick and jackie chan stunt ever, and goodfellas, (we were also really obsessed with the crow).  there are some ladies out there that are dudecore to the soul.

fathercore, dadcore, malecore, mid century man cave, man cave core, grind house, VHS noir core, action pastiche. things of that nature. lmao

My mom had a 79 z28 camaro.
Not pictured, thats an example, hers  was blue.
A very aesthetically fitting vehicle to the subject, and i want one so much.

she actually crashed hers in 1990, INTO SOMEONE LIVINGROOM, trying to get to the hospital while giving birth to my brother lol.
she was completely fine mostly no serious injury, at the time too so was my brother he came out ok :P.

if we’re talking purely interior, then it’s always been and always will be “man cave”

but dress wise, the suits and the whiskey and all have been coined “Dark academia”

if you wish for a more modern and chill ‘guy’ outfit, the word would be “downtown guy”

you’re welcome, from the department of words words and more words

Very nice additions id say you def have an eye for whats going on.
You are right on about "mancave" it has a readily established atmosphere of its own and has for a long time, that fits right in as a very key part of what we are talking about.
Elements of dark academia too, maybe not on whole per say (although once people started mixing it, theres nothing stopping like "dudecore acedemia" from being a subgenre lol)
But the color pallet and interior design certainly slips right in as valid additions. especially wood finish/brick stuff and leather.
That black leather jacket in downtown boy  above the Doc's is KILLER, i got my own leathers but id take that too.
I also actually personally own that exact pair of Doc's. lol.

Thanks for the thoughtful response was a good one :).

@⸸⸸⸸𝕶𝖎𝖑𝖑𝖌𝖆𝐳𝖒𝖔𝖙𝖗𝖔𝖓⸸⸸⸸ I’m glad you agree!! i totally got the vibe you were going for :> dark academia would certainly fit a slightly older guy during the winter, you can seeeee what I’m going for you know?

@goat
Very, very fair claim im inclined to agree with.
And i hate grilling myself but i wont argue with hank because i like burgers :P. 😆

Dudecore is a really good description, honestly. It's a good umbrella term that allows a person to split off into subcultures.

Case in point: Dudecore- Uncle. Hawaiian or loud print button downs, sandals in all weather, loves to show the niblings action movies their parents haven't let them watch yet, shares with them the best of rock and metal.

Lol nice nice. kinda going for the semi artsy metalhead version myself :P. Summoning a lot of my little brothers dad who was a tatoo artist for bikers in the early 90s, sans the extreme drug abuse and douchey angry personality 😅
