I hate today’s internet it’s filled with hatred and anger and everyone is trying to normalize it. THEY ARE TRYING TO NORMALIZE BULLYING!! It’s so disgusting and weird. and making so many generative ai i hate it so much. the internet is mean and i get called “sensitive” or “corny” for expressing my concerns and opinions. I know the internet is filled with trolls but it’s not even trolling. it’s just racism, sexism, and homophobia.  and it’s just not funny. The internet is so draining and no one takes other seriously. :/

but i’m done ranting

Replying to @souiciderockz (post is on page 1): “its sad because its not even like the internet's gotten worse from in the past to now. it's just stayed the same. you'd think after all these decades there'd...”

@souiciderockz It has gotten worse. Algorithms, influencers, bots.

x (twitter) is paying premium users for receiving interactions. of course good and harmless content it's not enough to get a big amount of interactions, so mostly of these bot accounts or users in general spend the day ragebaiting other users to get those interactions and receive money. as someone said here, ofc internet always been like this, but now that the internet has monetized itself, the hate isn't reduced for minor groups anymore, it's an everyday thing.

once i realised that most of the internet traffic is from bots now, i just came to the conclusion that every person on reddit or instagram calling me a dickhead and that i should die for saying something like i prefer halo 2 to halo 3 is probably just a bot, i like it here because it seems like everyone isn't a bot, and the myspaceyness of course

GODDD THAT'S WHAY I'VE BEEN SAYING EVERYONE'S SO DAMN NEGATIVE ALL THE TIME AND I SEE THE ALT RIGHT TRYING TO CREEP INTO THE MAINSTREAM IT MAKES ME SICK

this is because hate leads to the most engagement and engagement is profitable. everything on the primary internet is done for money.

i would recommend EVERYONE HERE to cut yourself off and stop giving these companies your data to sell. Reclaiming Territory in Cyberspace is a long read but goes over this.

that's what i think, anyway...

an elaboration:

the document i linked goes over the importance of hardware to the state of the internet. the more money these corpos make, the more hardware they can afford, which allows them to keep their services afloat. the primary way an average consumer contributes to this is by allowing their data to be harvested by corporations through various means, to then be sold to advertisers. you consent to this by simply using their services. this is why stopping your usage of them is important.

i've always believed indie platforms like FriendRewind to represent a form of counterculture against this dire state of the mainstream internet. it offers a social avenue in a world where social media diverged so far from its original purpose. this is why it's important we do not let this site become another shallow nostalgia toy, and instead actually use it to socialize.

that's what i think, anyway...
