First of all, Nightwing is my favorite hero so I'm very invested and passionate about him, I might write a lot. The goal of this forum is to debate without fighting about him and share your thoughts, and of course meet other Nightwing fans.
So here are my thoughts:
I think writers aren't bold enough to fully explore and use Dick. He's one of the most polyvalent characters, with great capacities and friends all across the DC universe. He's trusted by everyone, he's the perfect mix and balance between Batman and Superman, yet he's often stuck in either Blüdhaven or Gotham. I know that he's a vigilante, he doesn't have powers, but I think he should have a more important role in the Justice League. He's one of the hero with the greatest natural leadership, and as mentioned earlier, he's friend with pretty much everyone and very trusted.
Plus, with the new Titans lineup, he has no reason to stay on the team, especially with Steph being the leader. He's overshadowing her too much. If I were a writer I'd definitely make him leave the team after the Bad Seeds event. The last New Titans issue addressed his desire to leave, by the way.
Dick being with Babs is also one of the reasons he can't do bigger stuff with other heroes, anywhere on Earth. It's not even about his relationship with her making no sense, but because in general, Dick shouldn't be written as the type of man with a different girlfriend in each of his runs, despite how loyal and romantic he can be. I know Tom Taylor's run tried to dumb down Dick a lot and make him dependent on Babs and his friends, I really regret this run's popularity because of that. But it has been shown that he's an independent man, and that his past as a circus artist made him love to explore and move, and hate to be attached to places and objects. Unless your partner moves with you too, you're stuck somewhere. And Babs? She's a character who doesn't move. She's the damn Oracle, she has to be in Gotham or in the Watchtower to guide the others.
His hobbies and passions aren't explored enough either. Who remembers that he likes European medieval history? Has degrees in law and forensics? Loves skydiving and once beaten a world record by jumping from space in Tomasi's Nightwing run? Plays the guitar? And so many more things I don't have in mind right now... How come those sides of Dick are rare or often are tied to only one run and writer?
So what I'm criticising is that Nightwing shouldn't be held back like that, there should be a balance in his solo runs: stories in Gotham or Blüdhaven with deep lore about him and the Batfam, and then stories anywhere on Earth with other heroes he doesn't interact with often, to explore his friendships, leadership and teamwork capacities and truly challenge his limits.
