it is a terrible and unholy place but

there are actually some good boards

/x/ is good for some late night paranormal schizoposting, and has spawned some decent creepypasta
/mu/ is a really decent music discussion board, though expect a lot of unwarranted elitism

just steer clear of /b/ and /pol/ and you'll (mostly) be fine xoxo

Yes in the past, but the thing about 4chan is that every single board is almost it's own site with it's own culture. 

I would go on /lit/ (literature) very often, and /x/ (Paranormal). I also, /ck/ (food and cooking), and /fa/ (fashion.) There were also other boards I would look at, but not very often, so any opinion I have of them isn't too founded in my experience. 

I don't use it anymore. A lot of other imageboards are active, not just 4chan. If you use it, like Goat said above, I just wouldn't go on /b/ or /pol/. 

A long, long time ago and it's the first place I pirated comics from. 

I never used to write on there. I just liked to read the things in the paranormal, outdoors, and lit threads. 

(I wouldn’t necessarily call it using it then, but sometimes the discourse surrounding a book or philosopher I liked was more interesting to read than actually talking about it with my classmates :’>)

I peeked at it once when I was in ... Late middle school? Early high school? One or the other. Saw one of the most racist "jokes" I have ever seen, alongside animal gore on the same page. Backed out and never opened it again. (⁠눈⁠‸⁠눈⁠)

Never used it before. Growing up I was under the impression it was a scary and mean website but when I got old enough to understand it's not that scary and how to handle yourself online, that's when I heard it became boring and full of glowies. Also I few years ago a friend streamed the technology board I think to me and I was dying inside at all the femboy coder posts. Thought it was a meme and not a real thing.

A place where autists used to be able to just be autistic together freely but now 95% of the posts are glowies or bots.

It's not the mystical dark side of the internet or anything like that but rather just the same thing as any other social media site just with anonymity and way more feds trying to get you to commit federal crimes/blackpill you.
