Posted a blog asking this but I’ll ask here, what exactly is emo/scene music, and how do you tell the difference? Genuinely asking cause I wanna get into the genre as someone recently getting into the alternative sub genre. and from what I’ve heard, the bands I’m into are associated and popular with emo and scene communities, but aren’t actually either. So how do you know? And any recommendations?

3OH!3 is considered scene music im pretty sure, they have some super good songs.
we'll pretend to leave and then, we'll meet again, when both our cars collide.
Metalcore, deathcore, crunkcore, electronicore, pop punk are what mostly fall under the "emo/scene" umbrella
im not a pro at this BUT emo stems from emotional hardcore so its more associated with hardcore scenes and obviously more emotional music u should do ur own reasearch so you can find what you like because there soo many kindas and subgenres out there that is considered emo!
scene music is a little tricky cuz theres also SO many different kinds of music that can fall under the scene category, most of it being crunkcore stemming from generes like rap and electronic music i dont know as much abt the scene genere as a whole but that is what i know!!
but lowkey theres a lot of gatekeepers that'll say that certain music does or doesnt fit under those labels but no one can really agree on it so tbh dont worry abt what fits in what category and listen to what you like!!
For emo i would say rock or punk, maybe with more like sad themed lyrics, for scene im pretty sure its any kind of music, even though most scenekids listen to punk music there are many who have a more colorful playlist including vocaloid, rock and simple pop songs from the 2000s.

from what i can tell, scene music is typically much synthier than emo music
