how do i improve my verbal skills for portuguese TvT

Back to Help & Advice

Ok heres the deal: Im learning (brazilian) portuguese and the issue is i can WRITE IT pretty well considering how long ive been learning (a few months) but I cannot for the life of me speak it

I keep getting in these situations where when I have to speak it like out loud on the spot I cant and freeze up and then confuse people, and I just dont know what to do cuz I dont have anyone in my life to practice with who isnt a stranger and I kinda need to be able to do this (speak it I mean)

Like- does anyone have any suggestions? like any good apps or sites (yes I use tandem, but I dont really like it and most of the peeps on there dont seem too interested in calling or something) or just general ways to improve this or is just continuing to embarrass myself when i go to this Brazilian place to get my guaraná the best way to go TvT

well, I'm brazilian and I suggest you to listen to music and movies on portuguese. It helps you with how to pronounce phrases and words. [yeah, this is all that I have, sorry :(

Hiii! Try listening to brazillian podcasts! One of them is called Era uma vez Podcast, it is a kids podcast, but it might help since it is a "simpler" way to speak the way kids speak. <3 hope you learn!

Bahhhhh but thats the issue, its that my reading and listening and writing are good, but I cant formulate sentences when im on the spot TvT Idk i just wish I knew more people who spoke Portuguese that I could speak with but i donttttt, and like music has helped kinda but considering that I basically am blasting funk carioca 24/7 you would think id be better at speaking but im not TvT

but thank you all for the recommendations, though. I will check them out :3

@Zô oh! there is a kids channel called Clube do Pitico, it helps kids to speak since she speak really slowly and calmly! It might help a lot, if you want, I can send you a few links of some channels I saw that have the same or a very similar teaching way!

@AmarisMoon hehe okee thank you then, I would like that! I mean, whatever it takes to be able to speak it fluently, cuz god do I need to be able to TvT (I interact with people who speak it and literally dont speak english often so I gotta learn it so Im not having to use Google Translate all the time)

@Zô idk why but i can't send links, but I will say the names: clube do pitico, portuguese for toddlers and hora de falar com a tia jamille!

@AmarisMoon Obrigadoooooo I shall be using these hehe, hopefully it shall improve TvT

@Zô i know you will! the first step to learn to speak another language is the want, another thing, look for child music, like Palavra Cantada, it is really calm and also help with speaking, and for kids show, like Doki or Show da Luna, dubbed in portuguese of course, so you will have more pratice and understanding of portuguese on a simpler way!
