It Was Never Just Star Wars

Back to General Discussion

When people ask why I love **Star Wars** so much, I usually smile and say, "I just always have."

But the real answer is much deeper than that.

My grandpa raised me, and some of the happiest memories of my childhood were spent curled up beside him watching the **original trilogy**. I didn't know it then, but those quiet nights would become some of the memories I'd hold onto the tightest as I got older.

It was never really about lightsabers or spaceships.

It was about feeling safe.

It was about having someone beside me.

It was about love.

As life moved on, Star Wars never left me. It became part of my identity. My gamer tag has been **Ewok** for years because I've always loved those little guys. I have Star Wars tattoos that I'll cherish forever. Even my license plate is a little reminder of the story that's been with me my entire life.

When I married my best friend, there was never a question—we were having a Star Wars wedding. It felt like the perfect way to honor something that had shaped so much of who I am. Walking through Galaxy's Edge on our honeymoon felt like a dream I'd been carrying since I was a little girl.

But there was one person I wished could have shared that day with me.

My grandpa wasn't there.

Not because I didn't want him there.

Life became complicated, and circumstances outside of our control pulled us apart. There are still things we're trying to work through, and I hold onto hope that one day we'll find our way back to each other.

Not having him at my wedding broke a piece of my heart.

There were moments I caught myself looking around, wishing he could have seen it all. Wishing he could have smiled at the Star Wars details, laughed with us, and watched the little girl he raised marry the love of her life.

Sometimes people think the tattoos, the license plate, the wedding, or the gamer tag are just because I'm a huge fan.

They're not.

They're pieces of my story.

They're reminders of where I came from, of the man who helped raise me, and of a childhood that gave me some of the happiest memories I'll ever have.

I still believe we'll find our way back to each other someday.

Until then, every time I hear those opening notes and watch the stars fill the screen, I'm reminded that love doesn't disappear just because life gets messy.

Some stories are worth fighting for.

And I hope ours is one of them.

💜 *May the Force be with you... always.*
