Retro Deviantart?

Back to Art & Photography

I know that there's probably more than a few of us that remember Deviantart from the early 00s. I know I spent a TON of time on there, and having a blast, let alone starting to upload art of my own. With the way it is now (AI slop, AI data scraping, etc), I haven't been on for years.

Now, here's the big question: in all of this retro revivalist goodness, has anyone managed a dA clone, or an art website that functions like the 00s Deviantart?

My coworker and I have been talking, and this is the one type of revival website she wants to find. FR is nice, but not her speed, but she as well longs for the simplicity of the Old Web. Figured that this would be the best place to ask!

excuse me for commenting while not having any experience with deviantart during that period ^^... i did experience deviantart during the mid-late 2010s before the "eclipse" layout and ai generation overtook the website today. to this day, i don't think there's been many art platforms that sought out to function like older deviantart, or at least ones that have gotten enough popularity to be noted. but for the most part, there's been several attempts at making an art social media be established in the internet as deviantart was, yet most of these them haven't taken off as much as deviantart did or eventually shut down.

the closest thing to being an alternative to deviantart when it comes to its older features & looks while having popularity is newgrounds. another alternative is sheezy.art: its kind of like a mix of old deviantart and modern social media, but isn't really that popular, but it's growing kind of slowly i guess. another alternative is to make your own website i suppose (because a big part of deviantart's charm was the customization), but that takes time and trying to get an audience that way is more harder. i'm hoping in the future there would be more art websites similar to deviantart.

^_^

I don't know much but there is Side7. Been looking at that. I still have DA. but... Thinking of just kinda saying bye bye hehe

newgrounds is fundamentally unchanged since the 00s but i tried getting a following there a while back and it seems like only fanart and nsfw get traction there.

i am waiting so impatiently for an early da clone. it used to be absolutely the best place to make art friends.

an early da clone would be awesome! that site was a core part of my online childhood lol

The closest thing ive found to anything like oldschool dA is sheezyart.. not exactly retro but its functionality is similar. I think you still need an invite code or smth to get in :l

I yearn for the day someone makes an old dA clone.. im surprised there hasn't been one yet.
