Any fighting game lovers who like KOF?

Back to Games

Tryna find some friends who like fighting games possibly a nerdy girlfriend >_>

Sadly cant be a nerdy girlfriend but I rock with KOF! I main Fio in KOF 2006, and my mains on KOF XV are Chris, Shermie and Leona!

Chris Shermie and Leona?!.. I play KOF 2002 and Main Vanessa Kula and K'

@IrisEyeFlower/AxlTheCoolkid

Would you say you prefer the “pure” Kof2002 or the modified versions? (Magic Plus, for example)

I also love Vanessa as my main, but I'm terrible at her—I don't know her combos, either because I haven't practiced enough or because I play too aggressively and not defensively enough.

I have a lot of characters I like, but I always pick Angel for my team (I’m not good at using her—I don’t know her infinite combos or the optimal way to move her—but I love her gameplay even though she deals terrible damage).

@San I would rather the OG KOF2002 that i play on fightcade if i want a serious online match and Magic Plus if  i just wanna spam my SDM, but my first KOF was funnily enough KOF 2002 UM on the Xbox 360

@IrisEyeFlower/AxlTheCoolkid  I'm really used to the Magic version (or was it Plus? I don't remember—the one where a single hit or special move instantly refills all three bars), although the regular versions aren't that complicated either. I used to play on Fightcade with a friend, but I think that was the regular version as well. I didn't even know Ultimate Match existed until recently, but I find it a little slower compared to the regular 2002 version. (I also watch Fightcade matches on YouTube—the skill level of the players who rank up there is terrifying.)

@San MMMM it just takes time to get a hold of KOF2002 but yeah its kinda weird 2002UM feels different in pace

Oh I didnt see this because it wasnt a reply lol but nice! I love Kula and K' is really cool too! I main those three because

Shermie: Eye-candy + grappler. I fucking love grapplers

Chris: Eye-candy + extremely mobile. I love mobile characters I can play like a monkey trapped in a cage

Leona: Childhood crush that I've been committed to ever since first seeing her in Metal Slug Defense, been maining Leona in every game I've seen her in since(be it KoF or Metal Slug games)

always wanted to get into kof

if only love was a star<

@victoriaexquisitewallflower

What’s stopping you from getting started right now? (When I was a kid, I didn’t like those games because I’d lose or they wouldn’t let me win—so it’s frustrating at first—but once you get the hang of it, it’s genuinely fun. Although I never got around to playing online—I’m good, but the tryhards are way better—Mexicans are genuinely very skilled at these games; that dedication is admirable.)

If you want some recommendations, I grew up playing KOF98 and KOF2002 (not the Ultimate Match);

I find the ’98 version a bit clunkier (compared to 2002), and I think 2002 is more fast-paced and more fun. KOF2002UM feels clunkier when performing moves or jumping (and the PS2 version of KOF2002 comes with 4 or 5 unlockable characters: Shingo, Geese, Orochi, Iori, and King).

@San the main reason stopping me from playing is bc im always too broke to buy more fighting games, but kof xv is $10 on steam rn so i might pick it up and see how it goes

@victoriaexquisitewallflower Well, strictly speaking, I think you could still play them using an emulator (an arcade-style one, for example); KOF XV is currently 75% off, so it seems to have dropped to $5.24 (it's strange that KOF XIV is $6.29, an 85% discount)

I bought it and gave it a try—I don’t think it’s bad, but I can’t get used to the pace of XV. That said, it has DLC teams, and I think they make up half the roster, unfortunately. Personally, I like Angel; I pick her even though I don’t know how to play her.  But you'll get used to it quickly—it's just four buttons (LP/HP & LK/HK). I didn't try the online mode because my internet connection is terrible, but now that I have a graphics card, the gameplay might run more smoothly.
