Personally I loved it especially the following (I suck at reviews my bad)
- Josh's character : perfectly emcompassed the 'guy who think women owe him' archetype, the way he went to sex IMMEDIATELY after establishing the love link with Iris made me want to cry :'(. I think he falls into the incel category as well since he's shown clear distrust of women + blames them for his former loneliness overall I fucking hate him
- The parallel between Kat and Iris : Right off the bat Kat explains to Iris how she feels inferior to her which I would assume is a sentiment irl women who've been dumped by their bf/husband in favor of a chatbot would relate to, bc how are you as a human going to outdo a machine that's made to be a yesman and available for sex 24/7 ??? Also I think it's interesting how after she gets stabbed by Patrick she sits on the couch next to Irene and points out that it looks like it's about to rain - whereas we've seen before that when asked about the weather Iris gives the exact probability of it raining. Even as she's dying, she cannot beat AI.
- Elie and Patrick's "relationship" : It's nice that by having both Josh and Elie be with AIs they show different attitudes towards it, one that's dominating and non-humanizing (can't say dehumanize bc they're not human duh), sees the AI as an object (bc that's what it is), and another who blurs the line between machine and person. I wish we got to see more of Elie's background to know why he bought Patrick ; loneliness ? Boredom ? FOMO ? Would've been nice to know
- The blatant feminism : not gonna go to in details about this one bc I think it's obvious this movie was calling out the oppression of women ? The abuse Iris goes through at the hands of both Josh and Sergei, the expectations of men like Josh, the breaking free (literally breaking her hand in Iris's case) from all that and quite literally reclaiming her mind and body ? Doesn't get more explicit then that
The only criticism is how they portray AIs as sentient bc I think that's a very slippery slope with the way they're evolving rn (companion robots are already thing btw), I really had to sit there and wonder if maybe there isn't at least one person who watched the film and completely missed what I think is the point and went "See ? AIs are just like us actually !!" because bro...
