For a game running on Goldsrc its really high quality and I think the narrative element is really great…I’m a pretty big fan

been a while since i played it but i love cof, one of the freakiest games out there it had me on my toes all the time. the whole concept is very interesting and the enemy designs are super cool as well
also really like the part where you're put in a maze with a fake chainsaw sound effect and no actual enemy nearby. just stressing you out for no reason
I used to be somewhat of a big fan of the game and I have replayed it a bunch of times and got all the endings I think.. I'm still impressed that the game literally runs on goldsrc when the game looks like something you'd see out of silent hill 2 lol.
I love that cof just shows the ugliness of depression and or loneliness, it really isn't afraid to show that. And man, I love the ost in the game so much...!!!!!!! It works very well with the game's atmosphere
I don't like that you have to back track a lot in the game...You need to do this one task and go back to where you were 10 minutes ago and so on...
The monsters that appear to attack you, have meanings to them (like some are supposed represent simon's anxiety or hatred towards something), which I have always found really interesting, but I was a little sad to find out that the ideas or assets for some of the models were stolen which just seems lazy to me..
The voice acting is a little goofy, honestly, but it's aight.
It's a decent game.. Though I'd honestly prefer aom over it
@lavashlol oh yeah the backtracking was HORRIBLEEE i hate games that do that because i always think i'm going the wrong way
also i had no idea some assets were stolen what??? do you know which ones? that really sucks :-(
@zeffdakilla I can't find the source of the info with proof I got from, so you can only take this as a grain of salt...But from what I remember the children monsters and also the fasters I think were stolen from some clay models or from some art, my memory is fuzzy(
a little boring but okay?? Not gonna rate it cuz i have mixed feelings about this game

Cry of Fear was my hyperfixation for two years, it was genuinely THE psychological horror game of its' time and it still holds up to this day. The narrative and plot is really heartbreaking and relatable for me, and just as it is with most psychological horror there's meanings behind each and every little detail (monster designs, character designs, et cetera.) For a free game, CoF delivers so much storytelling and scariness too I personally give it a 10/10
