How to style things as a guy going into highschool?

Back to Help & Advice

Idk why but with all of the great clothes I have, I can never really style them right or know what to add to it so it doesn't look boring. I want to dress more punk but also grunge at the same time so that makes it EXTRA confusing. Can someone just please help me out with this!

LAYERSSSS! i LOVE layering a long sleeve under a shorter sleeve shirt, it adds some dimension. its extra good if the shirts are different lengths/necklines are different widths, it gives more texture peeking through which is yum!

adding simple accessories is great too, one thing that i find makes an outfit so much better is adding a necklace. even if its a plain chain or two, it adds some little bit of extra something special that's really good. i also like studded anything!!

one last thing i feel is you cant be scared of how you look, ive noticed the confidence is easily half the outfit. plus you dont want to be scared of trying things out! mix patterns and textures even if you aren't sure youll like them together, it doesnt hurt it to put it on and test it out just to see!

@babyb3l_t0gether Thanks, this has been super helpful!

Pay attention to outfits you like and try to figure out what you like about them! You’ll notice that an outfit’s silhouette can be really helpful, making sure your outfits have a nice shape can elevate it (making sure that everything fits in ways that aren’t awkward and then pairing things that compliment each other is also a good place to start). Think character design silhouettes if that helps. Developing style is 90% practice in my opinion. You just gotta start making outfits and see what works! An easy place to start is starting with one piece you like (could be jeans could be a jacket could be whatever) and build an outfit/multiple outfits around it. A bonus thing to know is the sandwich method—say you wear a shirt and a pair of pants that don’t necessarily match. You can make the outfit more cohesive by adding something to “sandwich” an item between two things! It’s weird to explain, so going back to the example, you would use the sandwich method by wearing shoes that match the shirt or a hat that matches the pants. That way there’s two things that match and a different thing in the middle so it feels more connected. Lastly, it’s my and my best friend’s personal belief that every truly good outfit is a little bit ugly. Have fun with what you’re wearing and feel good about it bc even the best outfit is ruined if you don’t think you look good.
