Disco Elysium

Are there any Disco Elysium players here? I would love to hear about other people’s fav characters / archetypes / items / overall thoughts on the game. (:

A friend pitched me the game as something to do right after I had a big snotty sobbing crying break up, because I love detective/mystery stories and what not. Playing the game felt like I was being filleted alive (in the best way possible). 

One of the things that stick with me the most was actually the opening excerpt/working title for the game, Reflection/No Truce with the Furies. I always interepreted it as being about the slow dissolving of personal identity after a great event, and rebuilding your ego afterwards. A common complaint I heard about the game is that it makes fun of you no matter what choices you pick, but I think it's important that you aren't playing yourself, you're playing HDB.

When we take control, he is a dishonest miserable screw-up on a death spiral; everything he does is an unconscious bitter attempt to win back or claim victory over the memory of an ex-something in some way, and it's pathetic. Up until a certain point, everything you do as HDB can be seen as desperate attempt to avoid internalising your greatest failure. It's only past a certain point where you are stripped of all your coping mechanisms, played out every arguement and defense, and accepted total annihilation can you begin to rebuild into something more sincere.

The furies in the mirror are hounding maladies that convince you to stay where you are. The "truce" with the furies is accepting stagnation, it's refusing to paddle in stormy waters. I think the true trap of the furies is ever internalising that you are a finished product, and not that you have so much more to chance to be something else.

.... but anyways.... that's just my interpretation of it... I probably rambled for way too long, I hope my point was clear.
