tell me some stuff about the late 2000s! im writing a little story set in 2008..i need to learn more. TELL ME ANYTHING!!! or give me websites where i can read about stuff!!

Camcorders. They're like bulkier cameras with more flexible files that can be saved on DVDs, unlike cameras which basically only use memory cards, not tapes. My family has tons of recordings from the 2000s when my siblings and I were little and it's fun to look at those old, saved files and reminisce about our childhoods.

i was born in '10 so i kind of know what it was like since my parents raised me in an old-school way rather than modern ways. watch movies from the 2000s, im writing a fictional book in that decade and twilight helped me out a LOT with the scenery and everything! if you want to know what music was like, check out 2000s hits playlists. also nokias were one of the first flip phones i think? for fashion i know low rise jeans were SUPER popular for women and r&b music was pretty popular, my aunt was a teen in that time and that's all she listened to. DVD's and VHS tapes were popular. skateboarding definitely. the main thing i remember from my childhood was how bright and neon everything was. cartoon network was also huge.

this is totally based off what i think it was like hell i was born in ‘08 but i imagine a dominance of dvds and cds, camcorders and digital cameras, and a much more new frontier type of state for what the internet was in. small animations starting off in new grounds and as for video games the ps3 and xbox 360 and the wii. this is all based off basically guessing but i think this is accurate 

I was only 5-6ish at the time but I remember switching from tapes to solely dvds being a sort of status symbol at my school, a few of the kids had some cheapy digital cameras they would bring with pictures of their dvd collection and older kids on the bus would look at me crazy when I mentioned I had a full vcr collection. 

This part is kind of obscure but I also remember glass furniture being EVERYWHERE in peoples houses, the living room shelves were wire racks with glass planes, the china cabinet was mostly glass with a few having some wood panels, the dining room table was glass, the night stand had glass planes, so everywhere you went you had to so careful not to jam a limb into a glass corner and if the house had younger kids you’d see towels taped over the edges of low tables so they didn’t smack their heads into it. It was honestly the worst design choice ever even without mentioning how unstable it made everything, if someone dropped something a little too hard you could hear all the shelves and tables shake and everyone would freeze a little bit in case it fell over and shattered.

Late 2000s, I was in college.

Flip phones and sliders were the phone styles. Not the modern mini computers where the whole front is a screen.

2008, one of the biggest deals on the national political stage was Obama winning presidency. (I'm indifferent to politics. The fact is, it was a news headliner for months.)

Some of the biggest movies were District 9, The Departed, The Dark Knight, and No Country for Old Men, and RDJs Iron Man kicked off what is now the MCU.

Biggest games of the era were Mario Kart Wii, Elder Scrolls: Oblivion, CoD Modern Warfare, and (a personal favorite) Mass Effect 2 which revolutionized RPG game designed in a way that has gone highly ignored by the industry.

(2011) Ready Player One's book released. Which is a very likeky template of where video games are heading.

I think one of the biggest tv shows was Supernatural.

And on point with  , Myspace was at its peak. 2007 to 2010.  Those 3 years felt like an entire era. I was very active on the GD forums. Saw a lot stuff happen with people.

From my intensive research, the late 00s were a lot different than the rest of the decade. In fact, a lot of people hated it. People say that it was "when the 2000s truly died."

Of course, there were emo and scene people (what most zoomers rave about) but they never were the cool kids. The scenesters were bitches and the emos always got thrown a lot of insults in class. 

Popular girls mostly wore a crap ton of Aeropostale and Hollister, branded hoodies, bootcut jeans, denim skirts that got them dresscoded, layered camis, and uggs. Hair was mostly side parted or in a puff for special occasions. 

For your alternative kids, be wary that they probably wouldn't have been cool in school. I see many "2000s" characters that are alternative and popular, but it's super inaccurate. Back then, you would have gotten bullied hard if you just dressed a bit differently outside the norm. Alternative people were always seen as outcasts. 

The majority of the population still used flip phones. If you had an iPhone, you must have been HELLA rich. A good chunk of the population still had CRTs, but the late 00s is when flatscreen (Plasma and LCD mostly) television started to slowly but surely take over. We didn't have social media as we You had to use these sites on your laptop, but the popular ones were MySpace, YouTube, blogging websites like Livejournal and Blogger, Twitter, MSN, Friendster, Foursquare, Facebook... etc. People also used photography sites like Flickr and Photobucket to save their photos.

In 2008 in the USA the housing bubble collapsed & there was a massive recession. If your character is from USA, it would have affected them in some way (either them personally if they're an adult or their parents if they're a minor).

Most media was still physical media (DVDs, CDs, etc.) but most people had cell phones... usually a basic flip phone where you had to tap each key multiple times to get the right letter for texts. Almost everyone still had a landline. Many rural areas still only had access to dial-up internet through the phone lines & may not have been able to get cell reception out there; lots of blackout spots out in the nowheres. It still cost money to call long-distance from landline phones, so your character might have had a prepaid phone card if they're calling to another area code (think like... a city on the other side of the state would even cost money), but cell phones were starting to ease up on national calls. Some plans only did free long-distance calls on nights & weekends. International calls were still charged at ridiculous rates all the time. Most people didn't have unlimited data on their phone & it would cut off after a certain amount of internet if it was even capable. People could use Skype (video/voice) or Ventrilo (voice) from the computer to call people if their internet connection was good enough, but mostly the phone apps for those weren't around or reasonable to use at the time.

People might've had a webcam, they were NOT great at that time, the video would be choppy & pixellated. There were no filters. Like, none. You just looked how you looked unless you were REALLY good at Photoshop for your selfies.

GPS was around but not as common as it is today, most people were still printing driving instructions for unfamiliar areas.

All computers had a DVD drive. Literally all of them. Most of them would not have floppy drives at this time.
