I love Resident Evil 5 and 6. I admit it doesn't really belong in the horror genre but it is super entertaining to play with friends. (Or I might be just biased because I love Piers). RE 7 dreaded me so much it took me 2 weeks to find the courage and finish it. 馃槶

Def RE0!! I honestly don't get why the game gets as much hate as it does the inventory management wasn't as much of a pain as people say it is, it's definitely worth playing!! Other than 0 I also really enjoy RE1 remake and RE6 o(>U<)o

RESIDENT EVIL 0!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

REmake (2002), followed closely by the OG RE2 (1998) and RE3 (1999).

However, I have a super soft spot for the Outbreak games, even though they're jank AF and can be a downright misery to play on single player thanks to the brainless AI, crushing invisible time constraints and lack of any hand-holding whatsoever. Completely putting aside that it is a gorgeous relic of the PS2 era (seriously, some of the visuals here would absolutely blew my mind back in the day, crazy how ahead of the crop survival horror games were graphically) -- something about them has fundamentally scratched an itch in my brain about how Resident Evil should be tonally, the soundtrack, the atmosphere, a haunting, morose tightrope of a line between crushing horror and somber tragedy.

It's one of the games I want to see return in this modern era of Resident Evil so badly -- but yet, at the same time, I don't trust Capcom to do it justice despite all the W's they've had lately (ORC, Resistance, and RE:Verse are all shining examples of what Outbreak should not be. Outbreak is put very simply: single-player RE with four players and nothing else). But even aside from that, there's just an 'it' factor to the original Outbreak, from it's characters to it's level design, even down to it's UI -- that I'm unsure they could even come close to replicating or living up to in the RE Engine, let alone in today's online landscape.

Thankfully, Outbreak's online has been restored through emulation (adding voice chat through external apps like Discord), but it's a bittersweet blessing, as I feel like that version's quirks: unlocking of all the skins (like the stupid stick people) and lacking the implementation of something like Phasmophobia/Lethal Company's proximity-based chat has severely hampered people's experience with the the horror of the game that the old multiplayer (even with people spamming ad libs) was able to keep. Outbreak is pants-shittingly scary at times on single player when you're suddenly alone, when enemies now follow you through doors, when the Axeman or Oscar the Elephant decide to pay a surprise visit. It's arguably the most true 'horror' experience in the franchise next to REmake and VII: Biohazard.聽

To sum it up:聽Outbreak opens with an iconic slo-motion cinematic recreation of Birkin wiping out the U.S.S. Alpha Team from the perspective of a sewer rat, which stumbles upon the shattered t-Virus vials, and then precedes to (along with it's ilk) swarm and feed on a helpless, dying USS soldier in his final moments of life (scored to the beautiful and unmatched theme song by Akihiko Matsumoto). File #2 opens before the start menu with grainy footage of hordes of zombies shambling through the streets in broad daylight, followed by a car crashing in the crowd, before the driver is mercilessly pulled from the window and eaten alive.

revelations and code veronica

The original game's release on Gamecube, easy. Its so good.聽

REmake, though I like the OG 1-4 quite a lot. 5 was fun but I miss the fixed cameras and tank controls. The movie to action might have saved the series but it lost something.
