I wanted to start by this. If you're looking for bands or support local acts that is great, you're doing great work as a consumer and what you're doing is a huge plus. I'm talking about the kinds of people who limit their listening to really small artists (who most of the time aren't that great) as an AESTHETIC, not to enjoy music, AESTHETIC PURPOSES, and they mask it as "having huge knowledge of what they're doing" and "listened to all of your favorite bands and they suck" mentality, nowadays it is really easy to find great small bands if you digged through that sand before but majority of the time they cling onto artists who r actively growing and call them "nieche". 

This is reminding me of how some bm fans that love to gatekeep a lot of the music they listen to and some of the songs in question sound dogshit for black metal

The reason why they'd even flex their taste in music all just, cause it's obscure, is to appear cool somehow

No...Just cause you listen to some artist that has two listeners (one of them being the artist's mom) that doesn't even make good music, doesn't make you special.. 

maybe theres a reason why nobody listens to your niche artists!

I can kind of respect it, going out and looking for barely-known artists as a personal quirk, so to speak, but as long as they're not being an asshole about it - that's kinda the only thing that matters there, imho. That said I think there is a big overlap so...
