had a massive shoegaze phase and i still love the genre, saw slowdive live i think 2 or 3 years ago? i cried my eyes out the entire show
LSD and the search for god, drop nineteens, julie, cocteau twins and mazzy star are some of my other fav artists^^
I generally cannot get into shoegaze. I like Starflyer 59 and loveliescrushing, but I don't really like My Bloody Valentine or Slowdive or Deafhaven or what is your name or Candy Claws at all. Sweet Trip I'm interested in relistening to (along with, MAYBE, LSD and the Search for God). But I generally am not a shoegaze guy.
My problem is that I don't think it sells me on the atmosphere; the compositions aren't interesting enough (and don't focus nearly enough on slow moving, dense voice leading that makes atmospheric/repetitive music actually interesting, like Reich, Glass, Ravel, Tangerine Dream, Pekka Airaksinen, etc), nor is the timbre and usage of attack/release enough to make any interesting sonorities most of the time.
I would like to like shoegaze though! Does anyone have any recommendations for better shoegaze music?
@dub_housing try Flying Saucer Attack, especially their self titled album, its really good and is more in line with sf59 and lovesliescrushing
also Astrobrite, it's another project from Scott Cortez (the artistic mastermind behind lovesliescrushing)
slow moving, dense voice reminds me of the band Sway, listen to The Millia Pink And Green, especially the song "fall"
also try Hum, they're more post-hardcore than shoegaze but they definitely fit "interesting compositions"
final two recs: they are gutting a body of water and Cloakroom, tagabow is very hardcore influenced and heavy, somewhat similar to sf59 (my personal rec is Destiny XL), and Cloakroom is slower with a good balance of riffs and effects (my fav album is Time Well)
tl,dr bc i could talk forever about this genre: try Flying Saucer Attack, Astrobrite, Hum, Sway, tagabow, and Cloakroom

the artists you mentioned are all really popular shoegaze acts on rym, and while rym is still a good way to discover new music, i find that the highest rated shoegaze albums on there are mostly mixes of gaze and post-rock or post-punk
for more "pure" shoegaze i would go to other sites like reddit, youtube, maybe instagram, there you can find a lot more variety and a lot more classic shoegaze albums

I quite like Curve, but it's more of a genre that I've scooped up some awareness of alongside the stuff I usually listen to, so I'd like some similar recommendations as well
