The top blog on Spacehey is giving me an aneurysm

After a long period of inactivity, I hopped back onto Spacehey to make a bulletin about how I moved accounts (to here). Out of curiosity I poked around a bit, checked on what folks were blogging about… 

The top blog (as of writing this) is this: 

On surface level, this is factually incorrect. And it is disturbing the amount of users that have sited this single blog post as truth. That some blank account (run by a 16 year old) makes one claim (with zero evidence besides that it looks like a clone of Spacehey) without any form of documentation of where the AI was used and how. 

Saying that FR is an “obvious copy and paste” of Spacehey is ignoring the reason why Spacehey and websites like it exist. Because they are REFINED VERSIONS OF MYSPACE. MySpace has a recognizable look that you can’t really stray away from if you’re attempting to recreate the original.

There are probably tens of other MySpace clones that looks exactly like Spacehey. That’s the entire point of being retro. 

I don’t care if it’s “bait”, it’s a very idiotic, low-effort post that somehow has gotten over 450 kudos. 

It’s aggravating that the AI claim isn’t even specified, and people immediately panic at the mention of AI even being near a website. 

AI is a complex tool used in multiple facilities that’s been around since the 1950s where it was born to amuse humans with chess games, to now being used in life-saving medicine. 

By this logic, if we say that ALL artificial intelligence needs to be removed, then we can’t have smarter machines that can help detect  cancer.

 AI is a tool that can easily be turned into a weapon if in the wrong hands. I am appalled by the greed and destruction that is being caused due to mismanaged AI usage. The fact that generative AI is used for financial and advertising is a spit in the face for the act of human creation, and as an artist myself I am fearful for my future. I am disgusted by the amount of propaganda and hatred that is being generated from AI, and dear God I hope one day we won’t have all these polluting data centers. 

It baffles me that there are people who take things at face value rather than making their own research. Especially when there’s absolutely no proof of their claims… that blog post actually pissed me off.

I didn't expect there to be SpaceHey loyalists spreading anti-friendrewind propaganda. Some type of Spanish inquisition stuff going on here.

We really can’t escape the internet war like behavior huh , just would you know that you’d THOGUHT Instagram and Twitter was worse, nah nah apparently we bringing that same mentality over here in the retro sites

I think what is genuinely so ironic is that SpaceHey wasn't the first (nor will it ever be the last; next to FriendRewind and Napoleonite) MySpace clone to ever exist, lest we forget about the existence of FriendProject.

The thing is, most of these websites; prior to any announcement of Tom wanting to bring back MySpace (speculation, I might add) existed for a reason. To fill in the niche hole that's been missing in the modern internet. Where websites like Twitter, Instagram, and the like have their own user bases, it's been split to each of their own platforms, on top of that, the lack of genuine connectivity. You don't know if you're interacting with an actual person, or a bot. Worst of all, is how the algorithm always prioritizes ragebait and insufferable content over genuine handmade creativity (depending on the algorithm you have catered to). 

Emos, punks, goths, visual kei, jirai, whatever it may be. Most of these people, I myself included as an emo old head, have been in these sites (SpaceHey, FriendRewind, Napoleonite. Not to mention even making our own sites with Neocities, or going to places like Newgrounds or Bluesky, catering our feeds with what we want.)

I'm probably getting ahead of myself here, but, considering how websites like SpaceHey can't be accessed on places like New York anymore for some arbitrary reason that hasn't been put into place yet (nor ever), it does make sense that people would fly over to FriendRewind if VPNs aren't an option, or they have no knowledge of The Onion Router being an option. But having to accuse a site that's been "Vibecoded", but lacks showing ANY PROOF TO BACK UP THAT CLAIM WHAT-SO-EVER; is in my honest opinion not worth listening nor talking to, especially if SpaceHey in its current state is slowly reaching a decline.

Ultimately, it makes zero sense that an account that's empty and ran by a child, would want to throw accusations like that. If they have proof to the claim, they would've linked to some source like a GitHub page, screenshot (archive) or a recording, but they haven't, which is why I find the accusation to be... total hogwash.
