It's been a few days since I watched the movie, and I wanted to share a quick spoiler-free review now that I've had some time to think about it. I'm an asshole sometimes, sure, but I'm not enough of a monster to spoil it for everyone else.
I was already pretty excited going in since I've been a Backrooms fan since 2022, and having Kane Parsons involved set my expectations fairly high. The pacing might feel a little slow for some viewers, but I personally didn't mind it. The movie spends a lot of time building an unsettling atmosphere, focusing on psychological horror and the feeling of being lost inside the endless maze of yellow rooms that made the Backrooms so iconic in the first place.
Fans will probably notice a few references throughout the film, and some of them were genuinely nice touches. I'm not deeply invested in Kane Pixels' interpretation of the Backrooms, but I've never been one of those people who automatically hates it just because it isn't based on the Wikidot or Fandom lore. I think the movie does a decent job balancing its own vision while still giving fans something familiar.
One thing that stuck with me even days later was the atmosphere. The film clearly prioritizes tension, isolation, and uncertainty over action, which I think was the right choice. It feels much closer to the spirit of the Backrooms than if it had relied on constant chase scenes or generic monsters. The soundtrack also deserves some credit for helping maintain that strange, liminal feeling throughout the experience.
As for the ending, it definitely wasn't what I expected. Looking back, I still have mixed feelings about it, but I appreciate that it tried to do something different rather than taking the safest possible route.
Overall, I'd give it a 6.5/10. It's a good movie, and I enjoyed watching it, but I wouldn't personally put it in "absolute cinema" territory. Even so, I'm glad it exists, and I think many Backrooms fans will find something to appreciate in it.
(And yes, I watched it alone because coordinating schedules with friends is apparently more difficult than escaping the Backrooms.)
