There are several distinct styles within the diary genre itself.
Twilight diary was essentially the first, emerging in 2021 (by artists like chaosysl, kynlary, glosuka, and slidetomycrib)
Pandora
diary was sort of a successor to twilight diary around 2022 (featuring
artists like kynlary, kiyah, royal, ovanni, and ecoys)
AMG diary succeeded pandora diary in 2023 (by artists wokeups, royal, kynlary, and jovan)
beyond these main categories, there are many unnamed branches of diary:
slidetomycrib incorporates a heavy screamo influence
han2k15 has developed their own distinct style of diary
frendi, alyorra, and monckler3k sometimes make diary with a lot of pluggnb elements, since they mostly make pluggnb
violet,
whyhaze, luvpurp, im2dull, backxster, fangs, jkjmetasco, 1sadboii, and
revert make a softer style of diary that is somewhat more accessible for
newcomers, but still very creative
nicky, kylah, momo, angelrave,
saga, friendly, and blushxoxo each have their own sound and style that
you can't really box in, but also heavily influenced by some of the
styles mentioned above
but my personal favorite is Skins diary (a
term loosely labeled, as the skins aesthetic was also used by pandora
diary). this specific type of diary often incorporates rage influences
in one way or another (though not always) and includes artists such as
wassup, jannah, rage, kin, shyne, dec, kaduh, cantgo, and keepsake
i didnt mention a lot of artists, there are a lot more that contributed a lot to the scene but these are the ones im more familiar with
