Aight, i thought this might be enjoyable little distraction.ย

post a (or several if you got them) local to you, (dont have to be super specific, if your sparse on examples it could be within a hundred miles of your town, or somewhere else you lived)ย ย
cryptid.ย  Tell us about it, and if you can, include some artist interpretations of it, or claimed photography.ย
Not a thing i actually believe in at all, im naturally an ultra skeptic, so ghosts arent even real to me, but even so, folklore can be fun and interesting.ย
i always thought it would be cool if someone like, made a fighting game of all cryptids or something.ย

if you have trouble too finding a cryptid, local legend supernatural stuff is totally valid. something haunted. an interesting local ghost entity etc whatever.ย

Just so it doesnt spam the top of every page, ill include mine in a separate post here.ย

Mine are all southern california, as ofcourse, that is where i am from.ย

1. Yucca Man. (one closest to my hometown area, joshua tree / twentynine palms.) ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Description: A hairy eight foot tall large footed creature. Possibly a relative of Bigfoot.

Location/Range: Found throughout Yucca Valley, Joshua Tree National Park, and the Twenty Nine Palms Naval and Marine Base.ย

Sightings: The Tongva had oral stories of hairy beasts that roamed the deserts. Modern sightings became more common as the military base and other development into the desert regions increased in the 1960's-1970's. ย

Fun Fact: Yucca Man is thought to be a cousin of the legendary Bigfoot who prefered to live in the warm deserts rather than the cooler mountainous regions of the Pacific Northwest.ย

2. Proctor Valley Monster

Basically a big ass minatour demon.ย  which is fuckin dope.ย

The Proctor Valley Monster is said to be a Bigfoot type entity or a bovine like creature that roams around Proctor Valley Road near San Diego, California. The road itself is well known for a plethora of paranormal and strange animal activity.

One story from the road's history is of a teenage couple who go parking in the woods off Proctor Valley Road, in the southeast corner of San Diego County in California. The car won't restart, or maybe they had a flat tire, and the boy gets out to investigate - but he doesn't come back. The girl stays inside, terrified because she hears scratching on the outside of the car. Police find her the next day, still hiding in the car. The boyfriend? He's dead, torn and bloody, dangling from a tree, while his hands brush the car, producing scratching noises. The story sometimes has mysterious huge footprints found nearby. The legend of the Proctor Valley Monster grew, and it is described as a 7-foot hairy humanoid like a Bigfoot, or sometimes a cow-like animal with its body parts in the wrong place. The Proctor Valley Monster is assumed to be responsible for livestock mutilation that occurs every now and then. The Bonita Museum in Chula Vista has a casting of a strange footprint alleged to be that of the monster.

the above story seams to be an insert as i dont think its the origin of it, but the story in the area i would guess is told in that area as if that monster is responsible.ย

3. Riverside monster.ย

kinda looks like pumpkinhead to be honest. like from the movie franchise.ย

not a cryptid but sometimes surfaces in myth

theres three different versions, but the one ive heard ppl use is the chicken that makes you sick & feel as if theres a weird pressure sensation coming over you.ย

theres also a small devil version and a succubus/incubus, but the chicken is the one that i know and envision lol. but all three share the commonalities of turning into a lover that can only be dispelled by asking them to do something that is impossible to complete (but one of my uncles said u can also banish it into a tree and thats why some trees trunks have a big ring on them that look like a chicken's eye)

their presence is usually associated with being rich/selling your soul to the devil.

i cant find very many good depictions, but here is my favourite. just a big anthropomorphic chicken.

@Sol Syanideโ„ข [ร†]
lol nice.ย

turning into a lover? so like, you get a chicken demon simp? lol.ย

@โธธโธธโธธ๐•ถ๐–Ž๐–‘๐–‘๐–Œ๐–†๐ณ๐–’๐–”๐–™๐–—๐–”๐–“โธธโธธโธธ

yeah pretty much XD very toxic and obsessive demon chicken lover.

Love the Flatwoods Monster. I got to see Flatwoods when I was out there working. I like all things aliens too. Roswell, the Battle of LA, the DC Incident, the Phoenix Lights, The the Nimitz and Rosevelt Incidents, etc ย

In my restless dreams I see that townโ€ฆ

@xX-Squid-Xx

the flatwoods monster is pretty dope. looking it up its honestly got like an intimidating regal floaty vibe with a head like a cobra in silhouette.ย
very strong presentation. could imagine seeing that and just "nope, dont need to experience whatever lovecraftian beyond shit about to go down bubyyye"

In texas there is this donkey lady, there's two storys about her.

.She was a burn victim that was burned so bad that after she healed, her hands were fused into "black hooved like appendages" and her face melted/sagged into looking like a donkey.

.Then the other one is that she loved this donkey, and it got taken away cause it bit some neighbors and they drowned it and her at this bridge.

..." donkey lady bridge".

@clueless

Nice, very interesting one.ย

simurgh from ancient persian folklore.

it's a massive supernatural bird that is so incredibly ancient, it has actually witnessed the world end three times over. because it's lived through so much history, it's believed to hold the total collective knowledge of all ages. its original roots are zoroastrian but it also has a massive poetic side in old sufi mysticism where a flock of birds goes looking for this legendary wise guide, only to realise the simurgh is actually a mirror reflection of their collective soulsย

@sniffmydecay

That sounds absolutely dope as fuck. i like it.ย
Did pokemon rip that off?ย  i feel like theres a giant special super bird in pokemon that feels like that lol.ย
but yeah that sounds kick ass.ย

Its got a lot of gorgeous depictions too.ย

@โธธโธธโธธ๐•ถ๐–Ž๐–‘๐–‘๐–Œ๐–†๐ณ๐–’๐–”๐–™๐–—๐–”๐–“โธธโธธโธธย  i don't think they copied it but you're probably thinking of ho-oh and articuno?

the art is indeed fascinating. there are simurgh pendants too and i plan on buying one eventually :)ย

@sniffmydecay

your right, apparently ho-oh is based on Fenghuang, a mythical bird counterpart to dragons in chinese mythology.ย
And yea i saw those pendants! pretty neat.ย

We have a couple that are mighty specific to this region and I think I have seen at least one in person. The one you might recognize best is the Skunk Ape, which has to be the same animal as the Sasquatch. They're both real, they're both out there, and we're tearing down their habitat tree-by-tree.

@Sardonic The Hedgehog

nice. swampy sasquatch.ย

kinda makes me think of swamp thing though. remember that shit had a tv show? with that one actress that was in escape from new your, and creepshow, with the BIIGAAASSS titties? lol.ย

@โธธโธธโธธ๐•ถ๐–Ž๐–‘๐–‘๐–Œ๐–†๐ณ๐–’๐–”๐–™๐–—๐–”๐–“โธธโธธโธธ I had no idea they'd made a show out of that. Given the details you have provided, I'll definitely look into it.

@Sardonic The Hedgehog

hells yeah. i did a bulletin showing the shows intro just a bit ago lol.ย

I wasn't sure about any truly local cryptids, but apparently there's one in Toronto - The Tunnel Monster. It lives in the sewers and underground streams. Link to more info

@Lori

thanks for the link inclusion. interesting one there, sewer tunnel monkey is a new one on me lol. usually its some kind of gator or crocodile.ย  nice.ย

I consider myself the local cryptid of my town, I mean someone has to do it
