Browser recommendation: 0 AI and completely customizable

Back to Web & Tech

Vivaldi is a browser that I use and it's AMAZING! I love it so much because it has so many features and you can personalise a bunch of stuff, like your browser theme (you can also change the icons like the home button and arrow buttons) and they update the browser consistently, making sure to implement 0 AI into their features. I use the search engine 'Startpage' which has no AI overview and is just a normal search engine with also different themes.

The web browser also comes with many different features like the mail feature, a VPN embedded within the browser window, tab stacking and tiling to organise your tabs and a bunch of other built-in features. It's also well-known for it's privacy sooo yea :)

I love this browser smmm and ik people don't like browsers such as chrome and safari (and others) that go full AI on you and don't have much customisation tools. But yeah this browsers great and I really recommend it :)

This isn't promotional or anything, but i just love this browser and i feel not many people know about it. It's available on desktop (Windows, macOS and Linux) Android and IOS.

Here's the link to their website where u can download it if ur interested: https://vivaldi.com

know about this one and liked it too. mostly I love the fact that Vivaldi is a true successor to old Opera browser - when Opera was sold to a chinese megacorp, its norwegian developers ran for the hills and started Vivaldi.

but I still don't like that Vivaldi is proprietary and is Blink based, so if Google do something in Blink (it's the Google Chrome engine), Vivaldi devs will have no choice but accept that

so... I'm a Firefox user. yes, Firefox isn't as obviously customizable, but it does have Mozilla VPN and only AI feature is a chatbot link in sidebar, which you can disable. Firefox is generally more power user oriented, with CSS styling and powerful extensions

i currently just switched to firefox from chrome (i had a lot of bookmarks on chrome and never really bothered to switch over). i've been meaning to switch over to firefox for the longest time because chrome is pretty resource heavy and they also blocked ublock origin, and i hate browsing the internet while being bombarded with ads everywhere. i think someone else recommended this browser to me before, i'll have to check it out.

also, small counterpoint about customization

as Vivaldi is Blink based, its limited to what you have in the menu. yes, it's more than your average Blink based browser. no, it not more powerful than Firefox

Firefox's Gecko engine has a feature called userChrome that allows injecting CSS into Firefox UI. Thanks to it, stuff like this is possible: https://github.com/angelbruni/geckium
