I was thinking about how awful it must be to be a mermaid in *H2O*. Like, in the early episodes, Cleo mentions she can't even use moisturizer anymore because moisturizer is basically just water. But when you stop to think about it—how do they manage to live? For instance, you can't brush your teeth without getting wet. You can't use hair gel, creams, or any beauty products, because basic skin and hair care involves hydration, and anything requiring moisture involves water. You can't wash the dishes. It’s simply impossible to lead a normal life as a mermaid in *H2O* or *Mako Mermaids*. The shows portray an impossible reality. And another thing: they clearly don't have much contact with their families, right? Because if I were a mermaid, my mom would notice immediately if I flinched at a tiny drop of water or drank something through a straw; she’d definitely realize something was wrong. She’d probably keep digging until she found out I was a half-fish mythological creature. I know it’s just a fantasy show and doesn't need to be realistic, but if you think about it, it’s an impossible and totally unrealistic life. Like, the most unrealistic part isn't even them turning into mermaids when water touches them—it’s the fact that no one has noticed their strange behavior. Not to mention the lack of hygiene. They couldn't moisturize their skin or care for their hair because everything required water. They couldn't wash themselves properly without turning into mermaids. Basically, they couldn't take a decent shower. Just imagine the smell of rotten fish coming off those girls. A life like that isn't just impossible; it’s also really gross.
