What's your favorite movie or TV show from your country?

Mine is "The Guilty Are Among Us" (Suçlular Aramızda) from Türkiye, released in 1964 and directed by Metin Erksan. It's a story about how a very valuable necklace is stolen from a rich family's house, but the thieves realize that the necklace is fake. I really liked how the movie depicts the conflict and struggle between the social classes in the city. 

And "Vizontele", released in 2001, is about the first arrival of television in a small village in Türkiye. Vizontele is the word people use for television in the movie; the movie is fun, but the biggest reason I have the movie as one of my favs is the ending, but I don't want to write what happens here in case someone wants to watch it.

I'm not too fond in the cinema and directors of my country because of... mostly boring movies and repeated themes. About the TV shows, there's a channel constantly producing shitty novelas with the same actors every year 😭

But of course, I'm replying this because I think there are some exceptions. Now... first one! 

Johnny 100 Pesos

It's about a group that robs a video store, but the robbery is thwarted and they get trapped in the store while the police surround them. News programs takes advantage of this to create a media circus around the situation. One of the things I most like about this movie are the journalist segment, I find it a little funny how hard he tries to find something to keep talking about the robbery.

Promedio Rojo

A chilean comedy classic. It's not for everyone, since our humor constantly clashes with people's morals and values. In fact, the opinion on internet about this movie is pretty bad but yeah... there it goes one of the few good movies directed by Nicolás Lopez.

Nirvanna the Band the Show, and, by extension, Nirvanna the Band the Show the Movie. 

Oh Canada... I can't simply pick a "best" here. 

Shows: Trailer Park Boys, Kenny vs Spenny (in its hey day), the Tom Green Show, The Kids in the Hall, SCTV, The Nature of Things with David Suzuki, Littlest Hobo.

Movies: Black Robe, Atanarjuat (The Fast Runner), Margaret's Museum, The Grey Fox, Never Cry Wolf, Videodrome

Oh whoa, I remember La Guerre des Tuques.  Pretty sure it was played on CBC semi-frequently in winter with english subtitles for us Ontarians. Buried memory.

I'm from the UK and it's gotta be Gavin and Stacey. It's quintessentially British and most people you speak to over here will say they enjoyed it lol. I feel like if someone wanted to see some of the real, authentic lived in British culture that actually exists in modern day England and Wales specifically, this would be one of the most accurate depictions of it. Although I'm Scottish, the stuff is pretty universal IMHO.

Though other prominent UK created media would be the likes of Harry Potter etc but I think someone's already mentioned that.

i watch very little cinema as of late, and even less of it is brazilian. so im going to give my shout out to quintal da cultura and show da luna. Both are staples in my opinon of brazilian childrens media
