yes, even the spaces that aren’t filled with teenage boys. yes, even the communities that put on happy welcoming smiles on their exteriors to excuse their egregious and abhorrent histories and fanbases.
over the years, i’ve halted exploring fandom spaces due to the seemingly incessant racism, parasociality, homophobia, and so on. i haven’t found many reasons to do so, because of the reminder of how detrimental these places were for my health. the same trite, overdone jokes will be replayed. weirdos are going to be weird. i no longer want to be associated with these kinds of spaces.
idk another thing i feel like people forget wayyyy too often is that you don’t need to be in the “fandom” for something to enjoy it. you can just be a casual fan and thats it.
