Just wondering.
We own. And sorta regret it for many reasons. Not because of the responsibilities, but because of where we live.
Though... lawn care is complicated because we live on a huge lot.
Second question: What would your dream house be??
Our's would be an adobe with no carpet and no lawn, or a very tiny lawn. And a garage. And an extra bedroom.
I own. I live on a rural 1 acre plot. The lawn is not an issue, since I don't believe in lawn mowing, and prefer leaving things to grow wild. It promotes healthy soils, brings in pollinators, and acts as a natural refuge for wild birds and native plant species. I have a large garden, as well as many fruit and nut trees, plus chickens, and they all benefit from a non-manicured landscape. With all due respect --- FUCK LAWNS and FUCK LAWN CULTURE.
I'm in my dream house, it's small, and modest and serves the needs. One thing I would add would be a larger garage, and an expansion of the root cellar.

Pretty much let everything grow wild in our yard too.... but there is a limit to what you can let grow here without being miserable. Sumac will uproot your foundation if you don't train their root system, dogwood will do the same if they get too big and goatheads are hell to deal with. Plus, the long grass here has chiggers and fleas GALORE, so if you care about your health and your animal's health, you have to do at least mowing and pruning here.

NOPE, my parents own this house and are nice enough to let me stay for college. I think sometimes they hate owning because they're responsible for everything but 1. they don't like having super close neighbors 2. My dad likes being able to do whatever the fuck he wants to the house.
Redid most of the lights recently. switched them to led and put a dimmer switch on them all. He's replaced the water heater, redone some bathroom plumbing. Literally everything at least gets looked at him, some things get contracted out like the roof cuz duh. Added gas furnace in the basement for me so i don't freeze in the winter. He's not super willing to do huge projects anymore.
Sounds like he's staying busy. Be thankful, wish we had family that knew how to do anything haha
I rent but my dream house would be kinda small. Serves my needs but HUGE GARAGE AND LIKE A BILLION CARS
Small houses are the best. Couldn't imagine having anything over, like, 2000sqft. But that might still be too big.

We were in the renting hellscape, it's been nice not to rent, but sometimes it's simpler to rent instead of own. They both have pros and cons.
My husband and I own and recently bought it earlier this year. It's nice to have a place to call our own and have a garden we can grow whatever we want. We are also debating about getting chickens in the spring!
My dream place would be an acreage out in the countryside with chickens and a few pigs or a cute cottage near the coast!
Congrats! That sounds like a lot of fun. Always wanted to get chickens, but I don't like to think about de-worming even more animals. And they get mites quite often, right? Don't know enough about chickens. Cheap/free eggs would be nice. Yum.
