What is your personal metric for what qualifies as poetry versus some other form of writing? I've never done the research to really inform my take on this so pardon my ignorance, but I guess I've always preferred the mystery to knowing exactly what some egghead defined the word as.
For you personally, what is it? Does it have to rhyme or meet the requirements for some kind of meter? Does it have to be meaningful? Does it have to provoke an emotion? What are the limits to it? If someone put a period on a paper and gave it a title, would that qualify?
Part of me asks for selfish reasons, cause I do a lot of writing and I make little notes to myself that for me meet my own personal requirement, but I'm too insecure to share that writing defined as "poetry" because I've never been sure whether it truly is.
