I've been recently thinking about this album lately, and I wanted to set up a discussion about it in the forums.
For those who don't know, Jawbreaker are a punk/emo band that started around 1986, disbanded in 1996, and had a reunion in 2017. Dear You is their fourth album released in 1995, and the first one they did with a major label (Geffen Records). It featured mostly singing from the frontman, Blake Swarzenbach, as opposed to the more 'screamy' sound of their earlier work, as well as a more polished production. Critics loved it but the fanbase hated it and hated the band for moving to a major label (they were quite critical of the mainstream music industry) and they kinda 'sold out' in people's eyes (note that most of the people hadn't really listened to the album and were instead focusing on the fact they were signed to a major label).
However years later people started to love it, and it's been cited as an inspiration for the 2000s wave of pop punk and emo (with bands like Jimmy Eat World, My Chemical Romance, and Saves The Day, for example).
I personally love the album and it's one of my favourites, and if you haven't listened to it already I HIGHLY reccomend it. What are your thoughts, if you've listened to it?
