tips for styling scene/emo outfits as a mid-sized guy?

I've been getting into scene more and getting back into emo and I have no clue how to style my outfits. before I wore like a more 2000s nu metal style which was easy since the clothes are pretty baggy. I don't mind leaning more feminine but my only style reference for dressing masculine is Patrick stump basically (which don't get me wrong he's hot.) 

any advice? also I can't and refuse to wear skinny jeans. I did that for like 4 years and hated it. 

bootcut jeans are a lifesaver theyre super popular rn for some fuckin reason (eyeroll) but atleast they come in like every size bc of that. most important thing is getting weird ass colors of pants lmao. uuhhh not sure how you feel about leggings if u already hate skinny jeans. but those are an option2!

my suggestion is get one of those fuckin neck thingies. the scarves. the like patterned ones and shit. ppl stop questioning ur gender and just go with "emo" when u get one of those. icawnic

but anyway... if you already like patrick just literally dress like mikey lmao. thats the most casual "scene" stuff u can do bc somehow studded belts wer4everyone in the 2000s. like even the jonas brothers had studded belts (from hot topic btw) and they were wearing fuckin purity rings and shit. ok thats offtopic. tldr dress like mikeyway

baggy is like frowned upon for scene but u can probably get away with it out of sheer hotness bc thats how a lot of the other dudes got away with it back in da day lol

Your pants don't have to be tight they just have to be a color. Something with thick vertical stripes (red&black, black&white, purple&black?), & then pick a truly obnoxious neon solid that goes with the color you have most often in your closet. Highlighter green would be my choice, but if most of your shirts are red then you're just Christmas & that might not be a good look, so you might want pink or orange instead if you have a lot of red already. Then the black high-top canvas sneakers & the black belt with either the pyramid studs or the metal holes all over it. Graphic tee & a black hoodie. Done.

You probably already have the graphic tees & the hoodie. You might already have the shoes. So this is likely a shopping list of 2 pants & 2 belts, realistically.

i completely understand what u mean about skinny jeans. i have such trouble finding a pair thats actually cute & my style. instead i wear bootcut & straight leg jeans that are exactly my size or even a size down so they look more formfitting/more like skinny jeans. i also really recommend thrifting jeans if that's an option because i feel like vintage jeans are a lotttt more formfitting and comfortable. also, aside from investing in neon colored jeans, try looking for plaid shorts!!! ive seen them in some scene outfits, and i actually just recently got a pair from my local thrift!

a lot of "basics" can be completely transformed into a scene/emo style if u dont have an extensive wardrobe. flannels are used a lot in different alternative scenes, but you could totally style it in a scenemo way, at least ive seen a lot of people on pinterest do it + i personally have myself. for the scene aesthetic, id recommend going for brighter flannels, like pinks, purples, blues/teals, and oranges instead of more grunge-y colors like brown and green. for more of the emo style, i'd do a basic red/black or a white/black flannel. but that's a little more yeemo than og emo id say. 

if u wanna dress a little more fem, id say to look into bolero tops. u can diy your own from an old t-shirt, but i also just like to tie up some oversized button ups. i feel like they add a lot more accessory to an outfit, especially if ur relying on basics for the time being
