so.. I'm applying for an art school (not named for privacy reasons) and I have to make an art portfolio but they said no cartoons

Are you dead set on this art school or would you be willing to go to a neighbouring school? Because it really does depend on the school, i suppose you could check online to see if they have made exceptions in the past. 
I'm kind of dead set but if I don't get in I'll do smth else

If you don't want to draw anything else then applying doesn't seem logical. You're Gonna have to learn "realism" or whatever required style in the school so i would either recommend changing art school or practicing realism
