Opinions on pantheism?

Back to General Discussion

A bit of a philosophical question, but I couldn't find a more appropriate category to put it in lol (petition for a philosophy & religion category!!)

Pantheism is the belief that God is one with the universe, or the universe is a manifestation of God, if I'm not mistaken. It's a new concept for me, so feel free to correct me on my definitions.

I personally think the world would be a better place if there were as many people worshipping the earth as there are people worshipping an Abrahamic God. Really interested to see different perspectives!!

i think it makes a lot of sense - i'm not personally spiritual or religious but i do believe that life is a gift and there's good everywhere in the world

this too shall pass

Oh, I didn't that concept had a name! In my case, definitely isn't new.

Certainly I have a lot of respect for the cultures who have this belief, and I especially like the idea that we are all part of a whole.

This made me remember a popular song from my country, maybe not so popular in these times. Hijos de la Tierra, by Los Jaivas.

@kaixa The music is beautiful!!

it is an interesting belief; though in all honesty one that I consider highly respectable... you really can't get mad at people who do their best to take care of the things around them!

I personally think your last claim might be more down to the population of followers rather than the actual beliefs held though... a large portion the people inside of abrahamic religions need to follow the values a lot better in my opinion, and they might be shockingly close to some of them bordering pantheism as you outline

no hate though, I agree that the world could look  a lot more favorable if there were more people following the beliefs included in your original post

@𝄢 lynn yes, I definitely agree that a lot of people sadly pick and choose the parts of religion they believe in, resulting in what one could call a "hypocritical" life style. It's true that if, say, Christians truly followed the Bible, especially the new testament, in a stricter manner, perhaps they would care more about the Earth and made effort towards saving nature from oneself. However, I do think an individual is more likely to focus on the environment if their religion, bluntly put, revolves around said environment. Absolutely no hate towards believers in Abrahamic religions of course, just some food for thought.

I trust only in the force

@1dk Yes, I'm also very philosophically aligned with this religion!! I think I still need to learn about it before identifying as a believer tho :)

I believe God is separate from the universe he created. I also believe God has no beginning and no end, and that he looks nothing like his creations.

@annieapplepies Yes, exactly! A lot of people who believe in Abrahamic religions forget/don't recognise the fact that the universe is part of God in one sense or another. He is in our environment in the same way he's in us, as interpreted by many religious philosophers. I think it would be preferable to have people value what they know to be a gift from a higher being, and treat it with care. I'm also happy to see people who are open-minded enough to explore all kinds of different interpretations of a higher being, even if it doesn't fully align with your own.

Regarding deism and immanence, I'll be sure to check it out! Also, I thought theism was a general term describing belief in at least one higher being? Feel free to correct me if there's another definition, I'm quite curious :)

Also, ZATO DEFINITELY should get more attention, it's way too good
