What handheld console should i buy?

Back to Games

Hey, I’m thinking about buying a handheld console. I’d like it to be modded, so I’m wondering which console would be the best choice for that? I’ve been considering the Nintendo Switch because I’d also like to play online. What do you think? I need some good advice since I really don't know anything about this.

well it depends on what games you would like to play on there and there is a LOT of handhelds. like the nintendo 2ds, nintendo 3ds, nintendo switch, the psp, ps vita, and so much more. usually if you mod your handheld you won't really be able to play online with people unless other people also have a modded handheld then maybe?? if you want to go for the nintendo switch to play nintendo games then i say go for it but in my personal opinion i think the ps vita 2000 is the best handheld there is. cause not only can you play psp games, it's easy to mod, you can customize it like what skin you want, you can play music on it which is hella cool and so much more!

depending on your budget and how comfortable you are with emulation, i would recommend just getting one of those android handhelds like the ayn thor or ayn odin 3 so that you can play games from many different consoles (here's a video comparing the two that i mentioned)

DS or PSP trusttt

if you have any specific console-only games you wanna play, then get the console for that. If you just want the ability to play any game online, something like a Steam Deck would be better since for online its either Switch or a Steam Deck and while Switch's online games are nice, Steam Deck technically has more ways to play online.

But if you want the most bang for your buck I'd say a 3DS since with a modded 3DS you can download any 3DS game with a simple click on console and you can even play DS, GBA and GB games on it too with modded emulators within the console

I'm not very familiar with modding consoles, but of all handhelds, i gotta recommend the ds! most likely the 3ds or the 3dsxl. the two screen system and stylus interactivity can get lost on pc emulators for some games, and also i just find the library of ds games to be delightful. having a different form factor made some game really creative!

I love the PSP, but I'm unfamiliar with Switch modding. You could also try an Android device like the Retroid Pocket, that way you could emulate a ton and still play online Android games (Minecraft, Call of Duty Mobile, ect).

Handhelds are awesome! :cute: I'd say the PSP 3000, Nintendo DS/ 3DS, or steam-deck, however, it depends on what you're going for.

PSP is awesome if you want that sleek, pocket-size, multimedia device (you can even connect it to the TV). But if you want Nintendo stuff, I'd say a 3DS because it plays BOTH Nintendo DS and Nintendo 3DS games. Soft modding them opens up a huge library.

The steam-deck is like a handheld PC, though, not pocket-sized, I'd say it's worth it if you already have a big steam library.:omfg:

Overall, if you really want a switch, you should totally save up for it . Though keep in mind, outside of a few free-to-play games like Fall Guys or Fortnite, almost all major titles (like Minecraft, Mario, Smash, etc.) require a continuous payment for a Nintendo Online subscription (depends on what plan you get, but it can be a total hassle to keep re-uping every few months).  But for modding you'll have a blast with the PSP/DS/3DS

psp. really easy to mod, much cool features, compact, awesome if u love older gaming

I think Steam Decks are crazy expensive now, but I'm a big fan of mine and you might be able to find one for a decent price secondhand. I don't do much modding or emulating but all of that stuff is super common with Deck users so it's probably not much hassle.

If online ands mods are all you want.

Either a 3ds, psp vita or a Switch. 3ds being the the lower high end of specs. Psp vita metting Switch in middle.

Sonic Rush - Sonic and Blaze.
