summer is now ending, and it seems people are already getting hyped for halloween. the holiday season seems to be coming on, and i want to write a story inspired by that.
this story i want to write is highly inspired by the nightmare before christmas and rise of the guardians (i'm rewatching the latter on my second monitor as i write this).
basic concept is that there is this world, and that every holiday is represented by a nation. each of them is unique, they all have their own government, own leaders, own customs, etc... and despite their differences, they have to unite against a common enemy, an allegory for a loss of innocence and imagination.
i already visualized some of the governments, constructive criticism is welcomed:
christmas: it's always snowing, magic surrounds every corner, certain places it's a small village but in others it's like a victorian city. it's inhabited by elves, and typical christmas animals like reindeers. the type of government is an absolute monarchy, but it's not oppressive. it's actually a happy society where the elves have free will. the king, of course, is santa claus, but santa claus is just the title. there were several other santa clauses previously.
halloween: essentially anarchy. everything looks abandoned and it's inhabited by a skew of different creatures, skeletons, ghosts, clowns, other monsters. there's constantly situations involving absurd cases of violence, involivng chainsaws and whatnot. i imagine the leader being a tall, almost demon-like insect creature. i'm thinking a sort of hybrid between the almighty tallest and the beldam from coraline. (i'm taking a lot of inspirations into account here huh)
thanksgiving: a society run by talking turkeys, and it's always appears to be autumn. orange skies, leaves are always falling. the turkeys aren't smart at all and they regularly eat thanksgiving foods (other than turkey of course). it's a republic, and they have a president who is, you guess it, a turkey
easter: this is one i need to flesh out more, but i'm thinking there's rolling green hills surrounded by bunnies and chicks. think the smurfs but instead of smurfs it's bunnies. as for the leader, it's obviously going to be the easter bunny, but i'm thinking about how to depict him. i'm leaning towards him being similar to the energizer bunny. maybe they all have german accents or something too.
i have more nations in mind, but these are the 4 i'm most set on so far. and while i'm watching rise of the guardians, they have this "man on the moon" character, i'm thinking about having a major tom-sorta character who is a stranded guy in space who lurks in the shadows and oversees everything, and he's essentially a god to all the nations.
