sooo im just so done hearing about bad things being posted online and theres always that one mf saying "what if a kid saw this" WHY DO YOU CARE AND WHY IS A KID ON SOCIAL MEDIA! kids under the age of 13 just shouldnt have internet access, they should stick to tv shows and stuff you show them. i was on the internet as a kid WITH MODERATION BTW and still seen some fucked up shit, its not hard to find rotten.com links backk then XD people just act like the internet should be kid friendly at all times, this isnt a playground for your kid so you dont have to parent them, the internet has always and will always be the darkest place a human can go, just dont allow kids somewhere YOU KNOW theres going to be fucked up shit. put on a dvd or maybe lets try going outside? idk im just ranting XD

Personally for me, I side with Mutahar/ Some Ordinary Gamers about how they're trying to "child proof" the internet.

Like...I used the Internet from 2009 and never really went to harmful places - cuz that stuff never interested me. And this was like...with no parental moderation or anything. I never had to whip out my ID etc just to use a service or site online back then, and I certainly am not gonna do that now, even if Governments around the world are making policies that force sites to engage in "age verification" tactics.

It's clearly not about protecting children and it wouldn't surprise me if people ditch regular Internet and migrate over to the dark web because of these new situations happening.

I think trying to kick kids off the Internet just does more harm than good, because without the Internet the only people they have are their parents and their friends (and if their parents are strict, they may not even have very many friends. This makes abuse super easy to go unnoticed and causes many other problems for queer/neurodivergent youth who don't have access to the right resources. The internet genuinely saved my life, and the lives of hundreds of others, being the main thing I had to help me make sense of the world around me. I've learned countless things from it, and am a much better person because of it. And trauma/being groomed/other bad things that can happen on the internet can be very easily prevented by teaching GOOD internet safety, which unfortunately rarely happens anymore.

Kind of off topic but I was in an adult-only gaming server (nothing egregiously inappropriate; mostly people talking about college and work) and a kid somehow got in there. Someone mentioned that they saw a rock outside that looked like an ass and this kid got enraged. They refused to let it go and kept on with the "what if a child saw this?" ranting, and we kept trying to say that there shouldn't be kids there to begin with. Can't remember how but they eventually said something that insinuated to everyone that they were a relatively young kid.

Something I did enjoy / get annoyed at was that their username was something like "our_dark_reality". I think they kept thinking they were owning everyone and making deep philosophical remarks because they kept quoting their frigging username at the end of their comments. Like,

"Of course none of you are listening to me... but hey... I guess that's just our dark reality..."

Which honestly should have been the first tip-off to us that they were a young kid. 💀
