are there any 3g compatible sim cards around??

Back to Web & Tech

so i got my dream flip phone and it's arriving in a few days (YAAAAYYY!!) it's a sony ericsson z610i in blue and it came in its box with the charger and dvd and manual and everything. but right now my only concern is finding a compatible sim card for it.

from what i know the z610i runs on 2g and 3g networks. i live in portugal so the three big carriers are meo, vodafone, and nos. preferably, i'd love to have a vodafone or meo sim card, since i've used vodafone for all my phones so far and my internet provider is from meo. but if there are any other cards that are compatible with my phone i'm more than happy to purchase that too.

i get so confused when i'm looking for sim cards online and it only says "compatible with 5g networks." okay but is it backwards compatible with other networks?? i need to know!

thanks in advance <3 (if this is the wrong topic of discussion i can take the post down)

If a sim card is 5G compatible, that should mean it's compatible with 3G or 4G. It's typically the phone that decides whether or not you're able to up to 5G, and not the sim. If you're still unsure, you can always call or email the provider, and I'm sure they'll have the answer you're looking for.

yes, i'm not so sure sim cards matter so much, but your provider does matter because the cell towers need to have a frequency band that is compatible with your phone. for example, i use a kyocera ky42c, and i have to use a provide that provides the following bands:

4g - 1,3,5,12,19

3g - 1,5

GSM - 850,900,1800,1900

i'm an american and tmobile still services some of those 4g bands.

i would try just slapping your old sim into the new phone. according to extremely reliable website wikipedia, your phone takes bands 900/1800/1900 GSM and 2100 UMTS bands. whether it will be able to recieve service depends on what your provider offers in your area, which is a bit harder for me to research for you :)

some network providers in your country may have switched off 3g functionality so youd have to google whether it works in your country
