What’s something you think should be common knowledge/fact, but isn’t?
I’ll go first:
As someone who has been in multiple fandom spaces and got into fanfic pretty young, it should be pretty well known that if you don’t like something, don’t read/consume content with that stuff in it. Yes, this is about the Ao3 debate. And before anyone gets on me, I like to think I had a pretty natural fan fic progression. Are there topics and things that are handled poorly/offensively? Yes. But trust me when I say, that’s the case for ALL fanfic spaces. YouTube visual novels and texting stories, Wattpad, tumblr, Ao3- you can find it anywhere.
In fact, I’d argue Ao3 is better when it comes to disclosing what’s in a fic. Because as someone who was an AVID Wattpad user- I’m talking nightly readings for nearly four years- you really went into most fics blind. Tagging was usually pretty garbage and I’ve come across some horrendous stuff completely unexpected.
Ao3 is pretty straight forward and maybe that’s where the anger comes from- like a curiosity killed the cat sorta thing yk?
