I don't know if I have any particular niche favorite games -- not intentionally, since it's not like I look for 'big' games, I just don't really pay attention to popularity big-or-small when finding/playing games that appeal to me. I mean, certainly there are some that are less popular than others, but I feel almost all of them are popular to some extent.
Alan Wake II, not exactly niche at all, but deserves to be on that Silent Hill-level.
Resident Evil: Outbreak/File #2, more just a product of being old and limited to it's original hardware/emulation, but within the fandom it's amassed something of a 'legendary' reputation in recent years, so much so that the protagonist of the newest mainline game is the daughter of one of this game's protagonists.
Disco Elysium and Pathologic both have massive followings but I wish I heard about them in the broader mainstream discourse.
Jurassic Park: Operation Genesis is probably the most 'niche' on this list purely on age and rarity, but is quite often still regarded as the best game in the franchise.
The Higurashi visual novel series isn't unpopular (probably one of the most popular/successful VNs of all time -- so again, mostly just comes down to age) but is really quite frequently overshadowed by it's (IMO inferior) anime adaptation and the success of it's sequel Umineko.
I doubt it's considered niche, but all of the games from reflect studios (All 3 Welcome to the Game, Dead Signal, and Scrutinized) They're addicting!!!
It just might be my favorite in person multiplayer experiences ever. It has the look of a realistic sports game, but the gameplay is so arcady, you have meters and power shots you have to manage along with different spins on your shots that change its trajectory. It sounds complicated but you really pick it up fast, I’ve played with people who never really play video games and they are able to understand the controls pretty damn well within 2 matches. And after you both understand how to play thats where the fun starts, getting and keeping rallies is incredibly intense, with awesome electronic music slowly building up the better you do. The game is all about getting in a flow state, just focusing on the ball, nothing else matters. In a way I think its very accurate to the experience of playing real competitive table tennis, minus the physical activity and training required. Its currently stuck on the 360 but can be played through backwards compatibility on the one and X/s, and if you can I highly recommend picking it up and playing with a few friends, I promise you’ll have a blast.
I'm unsure, if I'd really call it a game, since all you do is just walk around and feel different atmospheres as you continue, but the game is nice, it kind of reminds me of lsd dream emulator
Prometheus was punished by the gods for giving the gift of knowledge to man. He was cast into the bowels of the earth and pecked by birds.
its hard for me to really tell what is niche or obscure, i think there are definitely levels to it....but one that comes to mind is Disillusion! it has such beautiful visuals, the dialogue is funny and charming as well.......also Dujanah i think is even more obscure, it is so creative and has such a bittersweet story....a more well known but still rather obscure one would be Vampire the Masquerade Bloodlines! very fun role playing game, the atmosphere and design is incredible, godddd i adore older graphics so much <3
The Caligula Effect 2 is a wonderful game with fantastic music, great story and extremely fun gameplay. It's genuinely such a shame how much it went under the radar due to reviewers just calling it a persona clone before its launch(it has absolutely nothing in common with persona)
Also a game I've been getting into more recently is Umihara Kawase BaZooKa! Umihara Kawase series isnt niche in and of itself but the BaZooKa game is a bit of a black sheep even within Umihara Kawase community so I feel it counts.
(And not to rain on anyone's parade but like, Alan Wake, Disco Elysium, Higurashi, Guilty Gear, Bomberman and Coffee Talk are VERY popular games lmao)
Me and one of my servants where going through Toaplan's game library one day , and we came across a couple of gems. But they all paled in comparison to the utter demonic power of Ghox No words in any language can prepare you for Ghox. It must be seen to be beloved, Spoken of to be recgonized, and played to be understood. I never believed in the existence of spirits until i played Ghox You can sort of think of it as Arkanoid or Break-Out - BUT IN REAL LIFE. You understand me? this shit gets real It's widely believed among several scholars that seeing a Ghox cabinet in the wild just automatically kills you. no frills or anything fancy, just instantaneous unexplainable death. That's why you cant even find photos of the cab online, just recreations or its raw naked PCB. With that being said, maybe its a good thing that it remains trapped and chained by obscurity I'm fairly certain me and my servant have the co-op world record in the game, since we immediately took to fightcade after discovering it. Granted, we where credit feeding because we where desperate to simply see more of the games majesty AND ONTOP OF THAT we got the bad ending, so if I ever disappear know that it was because i got assassinated for claiming to have "beaten" it... but can you really blame me for getting the bad end when i have to actively stop myself from headbanging every frame? Click this video, close your eyes and just listen.
The music isnt even the best part, yet it just blew you away, correct? Its just a small taste. Every part of this game is lethal. Do not open your eyes to see the gameplay from a video, find a cabinet and put a coin in so the first time you "see" it you are in the actual situation its portraying

He clearly meant missing link, which is obscure because a single charge cancel would KILL even the strongest str*ve player
not very niche if youre in the community but Lucky Star: Ryouou Gakuen Outousai! basically just a game loop with the lucky star cast disguised as a lucky star dating simulator. very fun, i love it!! its just like the anime imo just with a bit of plot ^_^
for this one, havent played it yet but i plan to once i finish clannad: cafe little wish! its a romance visual novel that was released as an eroge (adult game) on windows, but eventually got a ps2 and sega dreamcast release!!
again, not very niche for this one if you're in the visual novel community, but narcissu! its an utsuge (depressing game) and it made me shed a lot of tears TwT the ending is very bittersweet though, and its free on steam so its very accessible
